Manufacturing Operations Manager - CertainTeed Roofing

About the Role

The Operations Manager oversees all production and maintenance functions to ensure efficient and profitable manufacturing operations at the CertainTeed Roofing plant in Peachtree City, GA. Direct responsibilities include managing the operations process, embracing design, planning, control, performance improvement, and operations strategy. This role involves preparing and controlling departmental budgets, providing leadership in safety, 5S, housekeeping, quality, and cost reduction. The Operations Manager contributes to planning and goal-setting by developing, recommending, implementing, and achieving operational plans, goals, budgets, and capital requirements. This position also focuses on developing floor supervision, promoting positive labor relations, and ensuring communication feedback across all levels of the organization. The role reports to and works closely with the Plant Manager on strategic and capital expenditures planning.

Responsibilities

• Directs manufacturing activities, including machines, spare parts, buildings & grounds, and repair activities to meet customer schedule commitments within quality and cost objectives.
• Measures success through employee safety, world-class quality, meantime between failure reliability, direct labor productivity, shipment on-time performance, and product efficiencies.
• Achieves organizational goals through efficient and strategic use of resources and capacities.
• Ensures the efficiency of production lines, maintenance, and facilities.
• Maintains continuous communication with the Plant Manager regarding safety, quality, production, schedules, and opportunities to maximize operational efficiency.
• Fosters open communication with personnel from all functions to disseminate essential information and accomplish business objectives.
• Manages, directs, plans, and coordinates production and maintenance activities to meet plant objectives, annual Profit Plan, and monthly forecasts.
• Adjusts capacities (labor and/or equipment) to meet new production requirements.
• Reviews plant-operating practices to maintain and enhance safety, quality, and production standards.
• Ensures a positive working climate by maintaining discipline, morale, and employee relations.
• Participates in decision-making related to financial and operational problems, inventory control, plant policy, facility/maintenance issues, and staffing.
• Supports the identification, development, and implementation of WCM, new manufacturing methods, equipment, material planning, quality improvement, and Lean and Six Sigma methods.
• Ensures adherence to all environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Six to eight (6-8) years of manufacturing experience in a management capacity, including prior first-line shop supervision and experience in at least two different manufacturing support functions such as Production Control or Quality Assurance.
• Strong working knowledge of product structure, manufacturing processes, quality standards, and modern manufacturing technologies and techniques (TPM, SPC, 5S, standardized work, and other Lean principles).
• Proficiency in Six Sigma, TPM, and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
• Strong human relations skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees to improve business performance.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
