About the Role

The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for the overall extrusion operations for a particular production building and shift. The ideal candidate maintains and improves production metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Scrap, and Efficiency) while supporting the career and skill development of production associates. This role leads continuous improvement practices such as Six Sigma projects, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and improvement workshops. The Manufacturing Manager ensures adherence to company procedures and administrative reporting, including production results, safety incidents, and corrections to Bill of Material (BOM) and Bill of Process (BOP). This position coordinates the daily production schedule, assigns production associates to extrusion lines or other departments, and manages all assigned production associates. The role serves as a backup to the Plant Manager, with potential for future promotion to Plant Manager.

Responsibilities

People and Team Management

  • Foster a positive relationship with all production associates on their shift, with emphasis on helping new hires succeed
  • Guide production associates in career development through coaching, training, and progression in the training matrix
  • Reinforce policies and procedures taught in company trainings
  • Meet turnover and retention goals for their shift
  • Complete early career reviews (e.g., 5-day, 10-day) and periodic written performance evaluations for all associates
  • Manage assigned production employees, including timecard approval, discipline, and assisting in hiring and termination processes

Safety

  • Create a safe work environment and hold employees accountable for following safety guidelines
  • Ensure incident reports are completed promptly after injuries or incidents
  • Alert management to any security concerns during a shift

Quality

  • Ensure quality results on their shift, performing audits as necessary (e.g., first piece verification checks and release audits)
  • Make and document quality decisions appropriately, involving Quality personnel as required

Production

  • Ensure on-time delivery and achieve production metrics (scrap and efficiency)
  • Review and execute the production plan by assigning personnel, establishing priorities, and monitoring progress
  • Assign labor based on business needs
  • Review accuracy of operator reports before submission to accounting
  • Report daily shift results to management via a production summary report
  • Audit each line to ensure cleanliness and quality standards are followed
  • Develop and direct projects to reduce scrap and conversion costs while improving process efficiency and throughput
  • Communicate with Customer Experience Managers to update customers on order status
  • Serve as backup to the Plant Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Supervisory experience (required)
  • Able to work while standing for long periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and cross-departmental experience in manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications and databases
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing problem-solving tools (e.g., Six Sigma)
  • Experience driving process improvements
  • Experience in plastics processing or extrusion
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and time-sensitive work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Consistent desire to exceed expectations and coordinate processes to achieve goals

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages 20–25 operators assigned to their crew.
