About the role

The Manufacturing Lead at nLIGHT is responsible for managing and prioritizing staffing assignments to meet customer demand and production schedules. This role involves launching shifts, leading cross-shift turnover meetings, providing mid-shift and end-of-shift status updates, fostering a positive work environment, and coordinating training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Works with supervisor and team leads to manage staffing assignments and ensure production schedules are met.
  • Assigns tasks, provides support, and follows up with team members throughout the shift.
  • Launches shift according to effective resourcing and productivity requirements.
  • Participates in and leads cross-shift turnover meetings to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Provides written mid-shift status updates to supervisor, including issues and action plans for recovery.
  • Fosters a positive, inclusive work environment for all employees.
  • Acts with integrity and honesty while promoting nLIGHT culture.
  • Reports and assists in the investigation of safety incidents and participates in site safety committees.
  • Uses basic problem-solving skills to ensure stable operation of the work cell and reports problems or concerns to supervisor.
  • Coordinates and provides training to ensure understanding of procedures and quality requirements.
  • Ensures clean, safe, and organized work areas.
  • Follows documented policies and procedures as designated by the Quality System.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience at nLIGHT as a Manufacturing Specialist or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Hands-on assembly, precision fabrication, and product quality performance testing experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more cell processes, equipment, and tools.
  • Proficient in Lean and process improvement.
  • Ability to lead assigned teams and create training courses.
  • Ability to identify and implement root cause corrective actions.
  • Good Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficient in ERP and MOM transactions.
  • Attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to work without supervision.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse teams and across various functional groups.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to train and motivate team members.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel very small items without difficulty.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands at arm's length, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds, occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to gown cleanroom attire and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods, including laser safety protective eyewear.
