About the role
The Manufacturing Engineering Technician supports the manufacturing and distribution operations by performing various tasks including equipment setup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities. This role combines mechanical aptitude, hands-on machine operation, and exposure to automation and prepress processes to drive safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Support Production Management by assuring all equipment and processes are functional and efficient; makes or arranges for corrections, adjustments, and repairs as required.
- Teach and train production staff on how to operate and optimize equipment.
- Train operators on equipment setup, maintenance routines, and troubleshooting.
- Operate equipment during setup, testing, troubleshooting, and during high demand times.
- Run a variety of tests including color profile, print quality, time study/throughput, material test/qualification, consumable testing, etc.
- Learn and utilize a variety of available software programs such as AutoCAD, Fusion360, Adobe Creative Cloud, SWITCH, Print Factory, and other RIPs.
- Absorb and assist in developing measurements to ensure optimal equipment utilization and quality control.
- Support Maintenance team performing preventive and corrective maintenance on digital and mechanical equipment (e.g., printers, cutters, lasers, conveyors).
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues using schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Build and install jigs, fixtures, and other productivity or safety-enhancing solutions.
- Learn and assist with automation solutions both digital workflow and physical process.
- Participate in Prototyping, Experimentation, Data Collection, Time Studies, Safety and Quality Assessments, and Reports (e.g., Nonconformance, Capital Expenditure Authorization, Purchase Requisitions, Request for Quote, Process Sheets, Safety Training Checklists, and others).
- Absorb and assist in developing and documenting PMV (process Map Visuals), and job aids.
- Work independently or collaboratively to support rapid problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Adhere to all Department and Company Standards, Operating Procedures and Safety Requirements.
- Notify leadership immediately of any observed compliance gap to codes, standards and regulations (state, federal, or local).
- Identify hazardous conditions and practices and immediately respond to (if trained) and report any unsafe physical conditions or unsafe work practices to site leadership.
Requirements
- Technical diploma or relevant experience in mechatronics, mechanical, or electrical systems.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a similar technical support, maintenance, or production role such as Automation, Electromechanical, Engineering Technician, Pre-Press, Mechatronics, Process Technician, or Production Technician.
- Requires an ability to learn, repair, optimize, and functionally operate a variety of different production equipment.
- Resourcefulness and ability to technically troubleshoot is a must.
- Ability to run tests, document findings, present data, and communicate with internal and external resources is required.
- Ability to read manuals, utilize software, and train others to operate equipment are a must.
- Must be proficient in written and oral communications at both operator and management level.
- Must be able to effectively write process sheets.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD (or similar drafting), Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Soft Starts, Servo Drives, and External Input / Output (I/O) Devices.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication tools and basic machine operation.
- Pre-press file preparation experience is a plus.
- Experience with Print Factory, Wasatch, Esko, SWITCH, or Adobe programs a plus.
- Mechanical, Electrical and Motor Control Troubleshooting Diverse Fabrication Skillset including: lathe, vertical mill, drill press, surface grinder and welding.
- Employer-supported continuing education in automation technologies encouraged.
- Able to consistently enforce LOTO and all other safety protocol.
- Able to work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to work flexible hours as needed.
- Able to work at heights from ladders and aerial lifts.
- Maintain current certifications: Bloodborne pathogens PIT Respirator Fall protection Safety Toe Shoes.
Qualifications

- Able to participate in a team lift of 50 lbs.
- Able to sit, stand and/or walk for entire shift.
- Comfortable with frequent ladder use.

Skills
