About the Role

This position is primarily responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing CNC Programs (Milling & Turning Centers), Operation/Tool Sheets, Manufacturing Routers, and tool/fixture designs utilizing best practices to effectively support machine shop operations. Your expertise in Gibbs or Mastercam and PRO-E will be applied during the design phase of new products, redesign of existing products, equipment set-up, cost estimates, facility layout plans, root cause troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The incumbent must be a dynamic individual who can multi-task and oversee various activities associated with aerospace manufacturing, ensuring Manufacturing Engineering activities comply with company requirements (regulatory, safety, administrative, etc.). This role requires effective interaction with a broad spectrum of people both internal and external to the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Perform all Manufacturing Engineering practices and activities in a manner that supports commonality, standardization, First Past Yield, and utilization of safe/best industry practices.
  • Create, maintain, and refine detailed manufacturing documentation (e.g., Operation Sheets, Routers, Set-up/Tooling sheets) through effective selection of manufacturing methods, including inspection point selection.
  • Assist in securing external resources (subcontracted services) to maintain and ensure machine shop equipment is operational to achieve production efficiencies and on-time customer shipments.
  • Generate, optimize, validate, and maintain CNC Programs for CNC Milling and Turning Centers using Gibbs and PRO-E CAD/CAM software.
  • Design efficient and safe tools and fixtures to support machine shop operations.
  • Generate accurate estimates (e.g., set-up, cycle time, material) using cost-effective manufacturing methods.
  • Define, monitor, and communicate the status of performance metrics to management; implement actions to resolve identified issues.
  • Effectively communicate issues in a timely manner to all affected parties, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Train and provide guidance to personnel to support Manufacturing Engineering and machine shop operations goals.
  • Foster a positive, cooperative, and safe work environment through effective communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, root cause investigations, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives to support company goals.

Requirements

  • 5 years of related experience in a machine shop manufacturing environment (Aerospace preferred).
  • 2 years of experience using Gibbs and/or Mastercam and PRO-E.
  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to analyze, organize, plan, prioritize assignments, multi-task, and achieve results through collaboration.
  • Strong math skills required for designing tools/fixtures and generating accurate, safe CNC Programs.
  • Ability to interpret graphs and data for problem-solving, SPC, and other applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel, both internal and external.
  • Knowledgeable in Lean Manufacturing concepts, employee training, equipment development, and manufacturing methods.
  • Proficient in tool/fixture design, material selection, facility layout plans, cost estimates, DFM concepts, GT&D practices, and machine shop documentation.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Gibbs or Mastercam, PRO-E, and CAD/CAM software.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, procedures, and use measuring devices/equipment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration. This role operates in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop setting, using standard office equipment and requiring appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., eye, hearing, and foot protection).

Temperature in the work environment may vary due to external conditions and machining processes. Overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. No travel is expected for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to stand for extended periods (7-8 hours daily), sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and crouch.
  • May be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 70 pounds.

Pay

$48–50/hour, plus a quarterly bonus.

This position is located at our Montville, NJ corporate offices. Many of our contracts require proof of U.S. citizenship and/or export license compliance for employees who are citizens of certain countries.
