Job Summary
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) supplies advanced electromagnetic systems and related products for various government and commercial applications. Key products include linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, and high-voltage DC power distribution systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works closely with the spacecraft assembly integration engineer and testing engineers to understand the AIT plan and ensure safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals are met.
- Supports the planning, fabrication, and procurement of satellite component piece parts, long lead items, MGSE, EGSE that align with the spacecraft Bill of Materials (BOM) and testing requirements.
- Supports the assembly, integration, and testing of complex systems, including payloads, communication, and propulsion systems.
- Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to ensure manufacturing processes and priorities are aligned with design requirements.
- Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to assembly, integration, and testing.
- Generates and manages spacecraft-specific assembly and integration nonconformances, documenting from initial problem documentation through disposition and root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Tracks a Bill of Materials (LOB) and provides regular status reports on manufacturing progress, identifying risks or delays to ensure timely project completion.
- Prepares and maintains technical documentation, including assembly instructions, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Interfaces and coordinates with design engineering to release new products and provide guidance on technical specifications.
- Estimates manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and recommends tooling and process requirements for new or existing product lines.
- Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
- Develops documentation of findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to staff.
- Makes technical presentations to staff and provides direction to less experienced professionals, design staff, or technicians.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Observes all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations.
- Works safely according to established operating procedures and practices.
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, plus nine or more years of manufacturing engineering experience.
- May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Experience within the Space Systems industry is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in satellite AIT, manufacturing engineering, or similar roles within aerospace or space industries with a strong knowledge of satellite components, systems integration, and testing procedures.
- Demonstrates extensive technical expertise and application of manufacturing engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with experience in project leadership.
- Able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment.
- Internally and externally customer-focused, formulates plans based on innovative new designs, and resolves complex manufacturing engineering problems.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required for interfacing with other departments and professionals, and representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
- Able to work independently and in a team environment, and work extended hours as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (Sensitive Compartmented Information) level clearance is required.
