V2X Inc · Indianapolis, IN · 1 wk ago
EngineeringFull-time

Working across the globe, V2X builds smart solutions designed to integrate physical and digital infrastructure from base to battlefield. We bring 120 years of successful mission support to improve security, streamline logistics, and enhance readiness. Aligned around a shared purpose, our $3.9B company and 16,000 people work alongside clients to tackle complex challenges with integrity, respect, responsibility, and professionalism.

This position will provide direct support to assembly operations while contributing to component-level fabrication. You will collaborate with design engineers, cross-functional teams, program leadership, and production staff to bring concepts to fruition in a rapid-paced, dynamic environment. Operating in a high-mix/low-volume model, products are fielded quickly, leading to constant change and growth. Manufacturing engineers may work on projects where V2X is the prime design authority or as a subcontracted organization, adding variety to responsibilities. Projects can last from six months to several years. Work environments balance office and production floor settings, with occasional travel (typically less than 10%) to customer or supplier sites.

Responsibilities

  • Determine production operations required to bring a product to fruition and support ongoing process improvement (Continuous Improvement).
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles, interpreting design intent from engineering drawings to support both design engineers and production teams.
  • Develop technical work instructions and provide hands-on troubleshooting with the production team.
  • Enter production routings and Bills of Material (BOMs) in SAP ERP and create supplemental visual instructions.
  • Support the development of Process Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs).
  • Design fixturing, jigs, and tooling for assembly operations.
  • Process deviations and disposition nonconforming material.
  • Analyze processes to determine root causes and corrective actions, supporting Continuous Improvement (CI) activities.

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • 5-8 years of experience as an engineer in general industrial assembly manufacturing.
  • 3-5+ years in industrial machining operations or metal fabrication operations (including forming and welding).
  • Experience in technical writing and development of detailed work instructions for assembly and rework operations.
  • Experience using ERP platforms to generate production routings (SAP S/4HANA preferred).
  • Experience using 3D CAD programs (PTC Creo preferred) to create production drawings from models.
  • Familiarity with national industrial standards (ASME, ASTM, SAE, ISO), with emphasis on ASME Y14-series standards (including Y14.5 GD&T) and interpreting assembly drawings.
  • Experience designing/developing tooling, fixturing, jigs, and support structures for assembly operations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills (linear algebra, trigonometry).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required (preferred concentrations in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering/Technology).

Qualifications

Desired Experience & Skills:

  • 5-8 years of experience in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing (AS9100 experience a plus).
  • 3-5+ years implementing lean manufacturing principles, Continuous Improvement (CI) activities, developing PFMEAs, and Root Cause & Corrective Actions (RCCAs).
  • Experience using PDM suites (Windchill preferred) to manage production process documents.
  • Familiarity with Military standards (MIL-STDs, MIL-PRFs, MIL-SPECs, FED-STDs) and service specifications (USAF TOs, NAVAIR Instructions) for fabrication, material properties, and testing.
  • Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic systems preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
