Manufacturing Engineer

On-site at our Prince George, VA facility. This role supports a new factory startup manufacturing large form-factor equipment (shipping container size, 50+ tons, complex). The position is part of the core factory startup and onboarding team responsible for building operations and manufacturing staff, fitting out the building, and creating process flows/work instructions from the ground up. Skills include panel and point-to-point wire assembly, medium voltage, low voltage, and high-power electronic assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing processes for large form-factor assemblies, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
• Design and optimize assembly workstations, jigs, fixtures, and tooling to improve ergonomics, efficiency, and product quality.
• Conduct process capability studies and root cause analysis to identify bottlenecks, reduce waste, and improve overall production output.
• Collaborate with design engineering, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless product introduction and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to drive operational excellence.
• Create and maintain detailed manufacturing work instructions, process flow diagrams, and control plans.
• Train production personnel on new processes, equipment, and quality standards.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies and automation solutions to enhance assembly processes.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, quality, and cost, and report on progress.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex manufacturing problems on the production floor.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) by ensuring smooth transition from design to high-volume manufacturing for large assemblies.
• Drive the Manufacturing Execution System configuration.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a strong focus on large form-factor assembly processes.
• Proven experience with process development, optimization, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for designing fixtures and tooling.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES) is a plus.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of industry quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
• Experience with automation and robotics in assembly processes is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD.
