Manufacturing Engineer

Essential Function

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for creating, evaluating, implementing, and monitoring manufacturing processes related to silicon and other materials. They also evaluate existing manufacturing methods and sequences and recommend/implement improvements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Company Quality Management System and apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate
  • Apply lean manufacturing concepts such as Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC), and other problem solving tools
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing methods and sequences and recommend/implement improvements that increase efficiency, reduce cost, reduce waste, etc.
  • Evaluate and test alternative products that improve Silfex’s technical manufacturing capabilities, resulting in throughput increase, cost reduction, and yield improvement
  • Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) recommending alternate process configurations that result in the conservation of material
  • Create manufacturing methods from prints provided by customers to achieve specifications
  • Understand concepts of CNC machining and CMM inspection. Coordinate with CNC and CMM programmers to achieve required specifications
  • Understand and can apply process control (SPC) and measurement systems analysis (MSA)
  • Prepare reports/presentations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions to Engineering Manager, EHS Manager, and/or Director of Manufacturing
  • Perform tasks/duties related to special projects or assignments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering
  • Leverage Lean/Six sigma green belt certification is strongly preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, including specifications, customer and internal drawings
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as trigonometry, algebra and statistical techniques
  • Ability to utilize software such as Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to use Access, statistical software (Minitab, JMP)
  • Must be able to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details
  • Comfortable talking to various levels within the company as well as customers

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
  • Moderate noise level in the environment
