How You Will Make An Impact

The Manufacturing Engineer develops, maintains, and audits manufacturing and assembly processes used at Reading Truck Group. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for advancing the manufacturing operations at Reading Truck Group by developing, specifying, evaluating, and implementing safer, more repeatable, more reliable, and more cost-effective fabrication, assembly and finishing processes and equipment.

To advance the manufacturing operations, the Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Develops, designs, specifies, tests and maintains records for production equipment, tooling, gauges, jigs, and fixtures to optimize manufacturing process, including safety, quality and efficiency by studying product requirements and applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Projects manage assembly and manufacturing projects.
  • Designs and analyzes labor and space requirements, product design, quality requirements, workflow, layout of equipment and workspace to maximize efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of manufacturing and assembly operations and projects.
  • Collaborates with design and manufacturing teams to design processes that produce product within product and process specifications.
  • Reviews and analyzes product sketches, designs, models, and drawings to make recommendations to improve manufacturability; provides design support for manufacturing projects.
  • Promotes company safety policies and develops technical solutions to improve operational safety.
  • Works with maintenance team, and outside contractors to improve current equipment and processes, improve performance, and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Actively participates and provides support in the daily activities of production teams.
  • Supports and participates in lean initiatives, and develops the assembly and manufacturing processes to provide customers with products that meet or exceed customer requirements and drive continuous safety, quality and productivity improvements.

Required Credentials

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience: Five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Experience with sheet metal manufacturing technologies, including fabrication, finishing, welding (both steel and aluminum), and material handling is preferred
  • Experience with DFM, DFMEA/PFMEA and their applications is preferred
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing is strongly preferred
