About the role

This is a permanent, fully on-site position in Somerset, NJ. The Manufacturing Engineer II spends the majority of their time on the manufacturing floor working directly with technicians to troubleshoot production issues, resolve quality concerns, implement engineering changes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily, hands-on support to production and manufacturing operations on the shop floor.
  • Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor working directly with technicians to address assembly, integration, testing, tooling, and build-related issues.
  • Assist technicians during troubleshooting and issue resolution to help maintain production schedules and respond to manufacturing challenges in real time.
  • Investigate manufacturing, assembly, quality, and test failures to understand root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring problems and identify corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and throughput.
  • Support resolution of tooling, fixture, and equipment-related issues and prioritize problems based on production impact and urgency.
  • Support quality investigations and disposition activities to ensure nonconforming product is handled appropriately.
  • Drive corrective actions and permanent solutions that address quality and process issues in a structured, data-driven manner.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead continuous improvement projects that enhance quality, efficiency, and throughput.
  • Utilize data and problem-solving tools to prioritize and execute improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Review and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for existing products.
  • Evaluate the impact of design and manufacturing changes on production processes, quality, and documentation.
  • Participate in first article builds and change validation activities to ensure changes are properly implemented and verified.
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation remains accurate, complete, and up to date following engineering changes and corrective actions.
  • Create, update, and maintain manufacturing work instructions that clearly guide technicians through assembly and test operations.
  • Develop assembly and testing procedures and support controlled documentation systems to maintain configuration control.
  • Update processes and procedures following corrective actions and engineering changes to reflect the latest manufacturing practices.
  • Ensure technicians have clear, accurate, and accessible manufacturing instructions to support consistent, high-quality builds.
  • Assist with supplier quality concerns and collaborate on the review of Supplier Deviation Requests (SDRs).
  • Support the resolution of incoming material and component issues that impact manufacturing operations.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, quality, purchasing, and engineering teams to resolve production challenges and support product lines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience working in a manufacturing or production setting with direct support of technicians and manufacturing personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting manufacturing and assembly issues on the production floor.
  • Experience with engineering changes, including reviewing and implementing ECRs and ECOs, and working within controlled documentation systems.
  • Experience writing or revising manufacturing work instructions, assembly procedures, and test procedures.
  • Hands-on approach to supporting manufacturing operations, including assembly, integration, testing, tooling, and build-related activities.

Skills

  • Experience or education in an engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, capital equipment, vacuum systems, aerospace, defense, automotive, precision manufacturing, complex assemblies, or mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing engineering tools and practices such as fixture design and production support.
  • Experience using SolidWorks for mechanical design or review of engineering changes.
  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to vacuum systems and semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with capital equipment and complex mechanical assemblies used in high-tech manufacturing.
  • Experience with Creo or similar CAD tools for reviewing and supporting mechanical designs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technicians, quality, operations, purchasing, and engineering teams.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $85,000 – $99,000 per year.
