Manufacturing Engineer

Actalent · Somerset, NJ · Today
On-siteInformation Technology$76k–$97k/yrFull-time

This role supports sustaining engineering and production of highly complex semiconductor capital equipment in a low-volume, high-complexity, engineer-to-order environment. The Manufacturing Engineer works hands-on on the manufacturing floor as the first line of defense for issues during assembly, build, and test of multi-million-dollar electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support during assembly, integration, and final testing of complex semiconductor capital equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, including fit, tolerance, and integration problems during build and test.
  • Act as the first responder for production issues and drive root cause analysis and resolution to keep builds on track.
  • Identify design or process issues encountered on the floor and provide clear feedback to engineering, including design redlines and improvement recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to ensure smooth builds and effective issue resolution.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to prevent repeat issues and enhance build quality and efficiency.
  • Develop, update, and maintain work instructions and build documentation to reflect best practices and design changes.
  • Support high vacuum system assembly and integration, ensuring proper function and alignment with design requirements.
  • Provide design feedback related to manufacturability, assembly sequence, and serviceability of complex equipment.
  • Travel up to approximately 10% domestically and internationally to support builds, troubleshooting, and production ramp activities.
  • Communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, and leadership to provide status updates, escalate critical issues, and align on priorities.
  • Work across multiple issues and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, floor-driven environment, ensuring timely support for production.

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on manufacturing and troubleshooting experience with complex electromechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical systems and components.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics for troubleshooting and integration work.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering or a closely related role focused on assembly, integration, and test.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, shop-floor-focused environment where priorities can shift quickly.
  • Execution- and troubleshooting-focused mindset rather than a primarily design-focused experience.
  • Adaptability to work across multiple issues, systems, and priorities in a low-volume, high-complexity environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
  • Experience assembling or building complex equipment that includes electrical, mechanical, and software components, rather than operating it.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 10% domestically and internationally.
  • Willingness to relocate to be fully onsite in Somerset, NJ.

Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment, large capital equipment, or large medical device systems that integrate electrical, mechanical, and software components.
  • Experience with high vacuum systems and related assembly and integration practices.
  • Experience in environments where systems are customized or engineered-to-order rather than high-volume repetitive production.
  • Experience providing design feedback, including design redlines, to improve manufacturability and assembly processes.
  • Exposure to advanced technology applications such as AI, semiconductor manufacturing, or other high-tech capital equipment.
  • Interest in a role with direct impact on production and product performance, rather than a purely design or analytical position.
  • Comfort working in cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain in a high-visibility role supporting production ramp.
  • Motivation to work in an environment with strong job stability and significant growth and ramp-up activity.

Schedule

This is a permanent, fully onsite position in Somerset, NJ.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $76,000 - $96,500 per year.
