About the role
This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on leading and supporting fabrication-related capital projects, optimizing equipment and processes, and driving continuous improvement in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The position combines hands-on work on the production floor with engineering analysis, process development, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
Responsibilities
- Cook up, plan, and direct major capital projects associated with fabrication activities, ensuring projects meet performance, quality, and timing objectives.
- Coordinate, schedule, and serve as a liaison between production, maintenance, and contract personnel for the installation and start-up of fabrication equipment and process projects.
- Lead and support engineering activities and designs focused on equipment utilization and optimization to improve throughput, quality, and reliability.
- Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs for fabrication equipment in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams.
- Support robotic activities, including implementation, programming, and integration of robotic cells into existing manufacturing processes.
- Participate in training activities, run-at-rate confirmations, and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) run-offs to validate processes and ensure readiness for production.
- Contribute to quoting new business that utilizes similar manufacturing methods by providing process, equipment, and cost-related input.
- Aid in defining and supporting future strategy for growth of the fabrication business, including process capability and technology enhancements.
- Support cell supervision, material planning, and production scheduling to ensure efficient flow of work and optimal use of resources.
- Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities to ensure robust launch and ongoing control of new and existing products.
- Conduct Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to identify and mitigate process risks.
- Develop and maintain part control plans to ensure consistent quality and compliance with customer requirements.
- Drive yield improvement initiatives by analyzing scrap, rework, and process variation and implementing corrective actions.
- Perform detailed process analysis and root cause investigations for repeat issues such as Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) and Change Control Notices (CCNs), and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a mechanical discipline.
- 5+ years of related engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong manufacturing engineering and process engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application in manufacturing and inspection.
- Hands-on CNC machining experience, including setup, operation, and process optimization.
- Ability to coordinate and manage capital projects in a production environment.
- Experience working with fabrication equipment and related processes.
- Capability to develop and support preventive maintenance programs for production equipment.
- Experience with process analysis, root cause investigation, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with production, maintenance, and external contractors.
