Manufacturing Engineer

This position supports developing, improving, and supporting manufacturing processes/systems, equipment, and methods to increase efficiency, quality, safety, and cost effectiveness for our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). The role involves close collaboration with production/machine shop, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and implement sustainable process improvements. Occasional overtime and second or third shift support may be required for 24/7 onsite or on-call support based on customer needs and contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve products or reduce costs.
  • Determines root causes of failures and recommends changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Incorporates new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Supervises technicians, technologists, analysts, administrative staff, or other engineers.
  • Troubleshoots new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Reviews product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
  • Trains production personnel in new or existing methods.
  • Communicates manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Designs, installs, or troubleshoots manufacturing equipment.
  • Interfaces with customers/teammates at all levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, mathematics, or similar field.
  • Equivalent of a BS with approximately 5 years’ experience (Engineer II) or 10 years' experience (Engineer III).
  • Experience in a machine shop, midsize manufacturing, or production environment.
  • Must be able to pass a MSFC physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.
  • Successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Must adhere to MSFC and OSHA safety requirements, including use of appropriate PPE when necessary and follow written technical procedures.
  • Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government-issued credentials and IT access.
  • Must pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
  • Must provide two (2) forms of Federal I9 documents and a REAL ID-compliant identification to gain access to RSA and MSFC.

  • May require walking, bending, climbing stairs, and navigating shop/machine work areas.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional lifting of up to forty pounds.
