About the role
As a Manufacturing Cost Estimator, you will assist the Estimating Manager in developing accurate piece-part and tooling price quotations for new projects, repeat customer orders, and customer change orders. This entry-level position provides an opportunity to develop knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, materials, costing, and pricing while working closely with Sales, Design, Production Control, and Manufacturing.
- Review blueprints and design information, evaluate material and manufacturing requirements, identify potential manufacturability issues, and assist in developing competitive pricing.
- Maintain estimating and order information in Prent systems while ensuring the accuracy and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Responsibilities
- Calculate piece-part and tooling price quotations for new projects based on a review of blueprints and design notations.
- Determine tooling layouts and identify special manufacturing requirements with guidance from the Estimating Manager.
- Identify potential manufacturability issues and review them with Design and Manufacturing personnel.
- Calculate estimated piece-part pricing for "fast-track" quotes using dimensional information provided by Sales.
- Review job costing information and incorporate relevant data into quotations.
- Calculate pricing for repeat customer orders, including reviewing material price changes and manufacturing results from previous production runs.
- Re-price customer change orders by researching the processing stage of the order, calculating the effect of the change, and communicating updates to Sales and Production Control.
- Interface with Sales Service, Planners, and Sales Representatives to answer questions regarding pricing and order status.
- Identify open orders affected by material price changes and assist with recalculating pricing and customer communication.
- Enter estimating information into Prent systems and ensure pricing information agrees with the signed final blueprint.
- Assist with large Request for Proposal/Quotation packages, including reviewing tooling requirements, material-buy opportunities, and other factors that contribute to competitive pricing.
- Participate in tool cost and job cost review sessions to gain an understanding of estimating assumptions and how they affect future quotations.
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic estimating files.
- Collaborate with IT to continuously improve and maximize the effective use of the company's enterprise platform.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company and customer information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related field.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints or a willingness to learn.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn manufacturing processes, estimating practices, and company systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments.
