Manufacturing Cell Leader

About the role

The Manufacturing Cell Leader will have overall ownership of production, processes, and people within a designated manufacturing cell. This role is responsible for delivering on SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) targets, eliminating losses through BDPS (BD Production System), and growing team capability. The position ensures compliance with BD quality systems, 5S principles, and all relevant safety regulations. Reliable attendance, English proficiency, and alignment with BD Values are essential. This role also covers for the Manufacturing Unit Leader (MUL) during PTO.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for achieving key strategic, safety, and operational goals.
• Develop and mentor the manufacturing cell team to drive results, focusing on production, associate capability development, and ownership.
• Coordinate and prioritize all activities within the manufacturing cell.
• Develop and manage the manufacturing cell’s budget and headcount in collaboration with the Finance Team.
• Establish and communicate challenging SQDC goals, translating unit targets into measurable expectations for each associate.
• Drive change to meet short- and long-term SQDC goals for the lines/areas under responsibility.
• Resolve issues in the line and manufacturing unit in a timely manner, demonstrating servant leadership.
• Manage the team in alignment with BD values.
• Run the TMS (Tiered Management System) cycle, set 24-hour direction for the cell, and roll out BD Ex Lighthouse methodology.
• Conduct yearly performance reviews, ensure active development plans for each team member, and hold regular 1:1s to review performance and growth.
• Lead Autonomous Maintenance (AM) activities, create AM work processes (e.g., CIL, CL), and ensure strong linkage to 5S.
• Facilitate BD Excellence implementation within the manufacturing unit.
• Collaborate with planning to establish production schedules and monitor delivery performance.
• Work with Quality to address targeted quality issues, ensure timely completion of investigations, and resolve associate concerns with HR support as needed.
• Build mastery in operations, people management, and BD Excellence.
• Spend over 70% of time on the production floor overseeing activities.
• Perform other duties as required to support business needs.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Associate’s Degree in Science, Industrial Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment.
• 3 years of people-leadership experience.
