Manufacturing Calibration Technician - 1st Shift

About the role

The Gage Calibration Technician I supports gage calibration requirements by testing and calibrating electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments for conformance to established standards. This role involves learning to use precision measuring tools such as indicators, micrometers, thread wires, height masters, and comparators.

Responsibilities

• Set up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate instruments and test equipment.
• Disassemble gages and instruments and inspect components for defects.
• Measure parts for conformity with specifications.
• Reassemble and calibrate gages and instruments.
• Perform routine mechanical gage calibrations efficiently and accurately while maintaining calibration records.
• Assist engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans to maintain precision accuracy of instruments.
• Communicate effectively with supervision regarding problems and solutions.
• Improve daily work processes to enhance productivity.
• Participate in 5S Workplace activities to maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Regular on-site attendance and punctuality are required.
• May work in other functional areas or facilities as needed.
• May work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum inspection experience equivalent to a Mechanical/Dimensional Inspector, Level 1 or greater.
• Ability to understand and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and tolerances.
• Basic working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Ability to use calibration software such as GageTrak.
• Ability to create schedules, gage files, and populate gage data.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Working Conditions

• Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
• Primarily standing (90%+ of the shift) except during lunch and break periods.
• Shifts may be 8, 10, or 12 hours long.
• Exposure to a typical manufacturing environment.
• Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing.
• Lifting and/or moving tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
• Frequent bending, kneeling (minimum 50% of the shift), and repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
• Proficient fine motor skills, including gripping, reaching, pulling, turning, and using tools to torque fixtures.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and ability to focus on fine print.
• Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where mandated.
• Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER security mandates.
