About the role
Advance Media New York, publisher of syracuse.com, NYup.com, This Is CNY and The Post-Standard, is seeking a Managing Producer to oversee all of the company’s social media efforts, manage content for NewYorkUpstate.com (NYup.com), lead newsletter strategy, and help drive newsroom AI initiatives. You will coordinate closely with other newsroom leaders to ensure content is optimized for social media and manage a team of journalists, including social media producers, writers, and newsletter producers.
Responsibilities
- Help create and implement social media strategy on all platforms and oversee execution by social producers
- Create compelling social media posts for multiple platforms
- Work with other newsroom leaders on social media efforts and strategy
- Build engagement and reach both organically and through paid promotion
- Direct content creation for NYup.com and help create audience for syracuse.com using AI-assisted tools
- Assign and edit articles
- Work with freelancers and external content creators for both social media content and website articles
- Lead newsletter strategy across the newsroom
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant journalism experience
- Management or team leadership experience
- Deep familiarity with social media management, platforms, and analytics
- A strong grasp of AP style, journalistic ethics, and compelling storytelling
- Understanding of analytics and social listening tools and experience using them to measure success and make decisions
- Basic video and photo editing experience preferred
- Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple demands under deadline pressure
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, including evenings and weekends
- Desire and ability to work in the syracuse.com newsroom (this is not a remote position)
- Reliable transportation
Qualifications
- Experience using AI tools to produce content is a strong plus but not required
- Familiarity with Central and Upstate New York
- Knowledge of how to package digital content for different audiences
Pay
The base salary range is $65,000 to $85,000 per year.
