About the Role

Eyes On Eyecare is seeking a talented, team-oriented Managing Editor to own and operate content production for the Content Studio. This role involves owning editorial production for client-related and client-adjacent content, from concept and outline through draft, packaging, and final delivery. You will translate client goals into content concepts and deliverables that are accurate, useful, audience-appropriate, and strategically aligned. You will also partner with Client Services as they quarterback timelines, client expectations, and project flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own editorial production for client-related and client-adjacent content, from concept and outline through draft, packaging, and final delivery.
  • Create, edit, and deliver high-quality medical and professional content on behalf of clients — to standard, and on the dates revenue depends on.
  • Translate client goals into content concepts and deliverables that are accurate, useful, audience-appropriate, and strategically aligned.
  • Partner with Client Services as they quarterback timelines, client expectations, and project flow — translating client goals and media-buyer pressures into work the team can actually execute.
  • Join and contribute to client calls, including brainstorms, kickoffs, check-ins, and content development conversations.
  • Represent the content function with professionalism and confidence, speaking fluently between Content, Client Services, and clients.
  • Assign, manage, or edit freelance writers or contractors, and proactively surface risk related to timelines, scope, medical accuracy, or client expectations before it becomes a problem.
  • Shepherd works through medical-legal / regulatory review where the subject matter requires it.
  • Build the Studio to scale by establishing repeatable templates, workflows, and quality standards that make excellent output predictable as volume grows.
  • Help define how the Studio operates day to day, and hire, onboard, and lead direct reports as the function expands.

Who This Role Is For

This role is the right fit if you are passionate about medical content, understand client needs, move fluidly between rooms, are real, take pride in the craft, and operate well in an entrepreneurial environment where the playbooks, templates, and quality standards are still being built.

Who This Role Is Not For

This role is not the right fit if you want a role that's purely writing and editing your own copy, with no client contact or business context, are uncomfortable partnering with Client Services and Sales, prefer to stay in one lane, treat the line between sponsor-supported and independent content as a nuisance, or prefer to stay in one lane rather than move between internal production and client-facing conversations.

Required Qualifications

  • Approximately 8 years of experience in editorial, medical communications, healthcare publishing, content marketing, agency, or a related field.
  • Strong experience creating or editing medical, healthcare, or life-sciences content.
  • Experience working on client-facing, sponsor-supported, custom, branded, or content marketing materials.
  • Familiarity with AMA style and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, clarity, and detail.
  • Strong editorial judgment, including the ability to recognize unsupported claims, overpromising, promotional language, and inappropriate sponsor influence.
  • Comfort participating in client calls and representing the content function with professionalism and confidence.
  • Strong project awareness and the ability to juggle multiple priorities without losing sight of deadlines or details.
  • Experience assigning, managing, or editing freelance writers or contractors.
  • Excellent communication skills across internal and external stakeholders, with a collaborative, practical, team-oriented working style.
  • The ability to operate independently in a growing function that will eventually include direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with medical-legal / MLR review and the care required around regulated topics (e.g., prescription and DTC content).
  • Experience building templates, workflows, and quality standards for a new or growing content function.
  • Ophthalmology, optometry, or eyecare experience is welcome but not required; broader medical content experience is highly valued.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, technology-forward healthcare media or education company.
