About the Role
The Manager, Transportation Operations leads the planning and execution of Master Builders Solutions’ North American transportation network, including bulk tank, rail, and packaged freight. This role leads the transportation planning and dispatch team and is responsible for carrier management, transportation spend, service performance, and network optimization.
Responsibilities
- Lead bulk and packaged transportation planning, scheduling, and dispatch.
- Lead, coach, and develop transportation planners, dispatchers, and coordinators.
- Manage carrier relationships, contracts, rate negotiations, and performance.
- Manage transportation budgets, forecasts, and cost and service targets.
- Optimize routes, capacity, utilization, and overall network performance.
- Monitor transportation KPIs and drive service, cost, and productivity improvements.
- Leverage TMS, ERP, telemetry, and routing technologies to improve execution and visibility.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Service, Sales, and Procurement to support business and customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, hazmat, safety, and transportation requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of transportation or logistics experience, with bulk, tank truck, or hazmat experience preferred.
- 2+ years of people leadership experience.
- Experience with carrier negotiations, transportation budgets, and performance management.
- Working knowledge of TMS/ERP systems, transportation analytics, and DOT/hazmat requirements.
- Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to travel 20–30%.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in construction materials, chemicals, industrial manufacturing, or another regulated bulk-liquid industry.
- Experience managing bulk tank truck, rail, and/or hazardous materials transportation.
- Experience with route optimization, fleet telemetry, TMS, or other transportation technology platforms.
- Demonstrated success improving transportation cost, utilization, service, or network performance.
