About the Role
The Manager Trainee is a full-time, entry-level position designed to prepare you for a leadership role within 84 Lumber. This role offers hands-on training across all aspects of store operations with the goal of promotion to a management position within 6-12 months, potentially leading to a 40% increase in annual pay. Many Manager Trainees progress to General Manager roles within 3-4 years. Relocation may be required for a management position.
No prior experience is required—just dedication and a willingness to learn. The training plan includes classroom, online, and hands-on learning in various areas.
Responsibilities
- Support customers and drive sales in a retail store environment
- Oversee material/supply chain flow, stock, and merchandising
- Create material estimates for building projects through blueprint reading and estimation
- Operate forklifts and handle materials safely (certification provided)
- Manage payroll, invoicing, inventory, and financial analysis
- Use Microsoft Office Suite (training provided)
- Interpret and analyze common financial reports
- Read blueprints and create material lists
- Respond to customer inquiries or complaints
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Full-time availability (48+ hours/week, including overtime)
- Willingness to relocate for a management position
- Must pass a background check, urinalysis drug screening, and math assessment
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role involves working in both indoor and outdoor settings, assisting customers in all weather conditions (wet, humid, hot, or cold). Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 80 pounds) are required. You may also work around machinery and airborne particles.

Pay
Approximately $42,000 - $50,000 per year, including $16/hour base pay plus monthly bonuses and full benefits. Overtime is typically available.
Schedule
Typically 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays on a rotating basis.
