Manager, Strategic Intelligence and Risk Management
Position Summary
This role will lead the Strategic Intelligence & Risk Integration function, guiding a multidisciplinary team of technical, policy, and intelligence experts to build and operationalize a data-driven anticipatory risk and resilience posture across the company’s enterprise (IT) and operational (OT) environments.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership, lead and direct the efforts of the Strategic Intelligence & Risk Integration team
Drive department results by getting work accomplished through other managers
Set clearly defined department objectives and goals and conduct performance management
Select, develop, coach & mentor team
Create direction for the department and act as a role model for other leaders
Leverage external intelligence from federal, state, industry, and private-sector sources into systemic risk assessments and decision-making
Develop and execute a strategic vision for identifying and managing risks from national security, adversarial behavior, and emerging technologies, aligned with corporate risk appetite and regulatory expectations
Expand the enterprise intelligence framework to include geopolitical, regulatory, supply chain, climate, and technology disruption risks
Cook up situational awareness, resilience, and response across all threat domains—cyber, physical, insider, supply chain, and geopolitical
Liaise with state and local regulators to inform and influence emerging cyber-related regulations, engaging business stakeholders to ensure alignment with enterprise risk posture
Leverage federal and state resources (e.g., U.S. Cyber Command, National Guard cyber units, and other government capabilities) to strengthen operational resiliency and response to adversary attacks
Represent Southern Company in intelligence and security forums, sector councils (e.g., E-ISAC, JE-ISAC), and government-industry partnerships to enhance collaboration and information sharing
Drive corporate intelligence priorities and influence federal intelligence collection to align with critical infrastructure protection needs
Partner with senior leadership to ensure systemic risk insights inform strategic planning, investment, and operational readiness
Lead daily monitoring of acute risk indicators (e.g., geopolitical events, supply chain instability, extreme weather) and deliver timely intelligence to support crisis response
Collaborate with data and technology partners to enhance intelligence platforms, automate signal detection, and deliver intuitive, data-driven insights
Establish governance processes for intelligence reporting, metrics, and continuous improvement to ensure analytical rigor and measurable impact
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and engagement while anticipating shifts in the energy and security landscape to position Southern Company for long-term resilience and success
Qualifications And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in intelligence studies, cybersecurity, national security, risk management, or related field; advanced degree preferred
10+ years of progressive experience in intelligence, enterprise risk management, cybersecurity, or national security, ideally within critical infrastructure, energy, or government sectors
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and integrate intelligence, technology, and business strategy to drive enterprise outcomes
Demonstrated success collaborating with federal, state, and local agencies on security, resilience, or intelligence initiatives
Deep understanding of systemic risk, threat intelligence, and regulatory frameworks affecting critical infrastructure and energy operations
Skilled at synthesizing complex technical and geopolitical data into actionable insights for executive decision-making
Experience with intelligence platforms, data analytics, automation, and visualization tools supporting risk monitoring and situational awareness
Strong communication and executive briefing skills, with ability to translate technical intelligence into clear strategic recommendations
Proven record influencing policy and strategy in cybersecurity, national security, or enterprise resilience contexts
Active security clearance or eligibility to obtain one
Prioritizations
Prior experience collaborating with federal, state, or local intelligence, defense, or homeland security organizations (e.g., DOE, DHS, FBI, DoD Cyber Command, National Guard cyber units)
Leadership experience in critical infrastructure protection, national security, or energy sector resilience programs
Advanced professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CPP, or Certified Intelligence Professional (CIP)
Experience leading cross-sector or public-private intelligence collaboration initiatives
