Manager State Tax Compliance
About the Role
This position is responsible for the corporate state income tax return compliance process, both consolidated/unitary and separate company tax returns. The individual in this role will also be heavily involved in state income tax audits, sales/use tax audits, and franchise tax audits. Additionally, this position will lead quarterly estimates/extension calculations and efforts to enhance the department's technology. This role manages a team of 1-2.
Responsibilities
- Manages and leads the entire corporate state income tax return compliance process utilizing ONESOURCE.
- Maintains, updates, and utilizes the state tax apportionment application built through Microsoft PowerQuery and PowerBi Pro.
- Coordinates and handles state income tax audits, sales/use tax audits, and franchise tax audits.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of tax returns through maintenance of controls and review processes.
- Models and integrates acquisitions, tax law changes, business structure changes, and tax planning opportunities.
- Thoroughly researches state tax positions.
- Assists with technology initiatives.
- Leads the estimate and extension process.
- Manages a team of 1-2 individuals.
Requirements
- Experience and proficiency with corporate state income tax compliance, including ONESOURCE.
- Analytical ability to review data, systems, and processes to identify and resolve issues.
- Strong knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the accounting field.
- Basic understanding of the financial markets and financial services industry.
Qualifications
- Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field.
- Preferred: Master's Degree.
- Minimum Required: 5+ years of corporate state income tax experience.
- Minimum Required: Series 99 license or obtained within 6 months.
- Preferred: CPA.
Skills
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Experience with Alteryx, PowerQuery/PowerPivot, and Power BI Pro.
- Background in the ONESOURCE tax suite of products.
