Manager, Software Engineering, Development Infrastructure
About the role
This role is part of the Development infrastructure (DI) organization where you will get an opportunity to influence, transform, and create the next generation, agent centric, large scale, development infrastructure at LinkedIn. You will lead strategic investments to make step function improvements in the lives of LinkedIn developers.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and manage core team of engineers working on building the infrastructure.
- Participate with senior management in developing a long-term technology roadmap for the team and company.
- Have the ability to dive deep into technical discussions to challenge the status quo, and steer the team in the right direction/to push the envelope.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across engineering and business leadership.
- Help the team realize their potential by setting clear expectations, openly evaluating performance, upholding accountability, and providing challenges to stretch their skills.
- Drive a culture of operational excellence. Lead the team into defining performance goals, metrics and building the infrastructure and tooling necessary to maintain a high quality bar and detect issues in real time.
- Create an inclusive work environment that fosters autonomy, transparency, innovation and learning, while holding a high bar for quality.
- You will provide technical leadership, driving and performing best engineering practices to initiate, plan, and execute critical, large-scale, cross-functional, and company-wide programs.
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications: BS/BA in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent related experience; 1+ year(s) of management experience or 1+ year(s) of staff level engineering experience with management training; 5+ years industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions; 3+ years experience in large-scale system design and software development; Experience programming in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages (like Java/Python/C/C++/Scala/etc.).
- Preferred Qualifications: MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline; 2+ years of hands-on software engineering/technical management and people management experience; 1+ years experience leading developer productivity and quality automation efforts; 5+ years programming experience in languages such as Java, C++, Python, Go, Rust, C# and/or Functional languages such as Scala or other relevant coding languages; Experience in architecting, building, and running large-scale distributed systems; Experience in the design and development of performant, highly available, scalable web applications; Successful track record of managing teams of engineers to deliver multiple projects on time and with quality; Active involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps.
