Head of engineering for our next-generation tolling and intelligent transportation platform. This player-coach role combines people leadership with technical depth: the Manager owns the software development life cycle (SDLC) and engineering execution against the product roadmap, and partners closely with product leadership to deliver high-quality software on time and on budget. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and is able to work across multiple concurrent workstreams.
Responsibilities
- Manage and continuously improve the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process — planning, estimation, development, code review, testing, release, and maintenance.
- Set and measure quarterly goals for direct reports.
- Provide coaching and mentoring for direct reports' career development and advancement.
- Conduct performance reviews.
- Hire, develop, and retain engineers; foster an engineering culture of ownership, peer review, and continuous improvement.
- Own engineering capacity planning and staffing against the product roadmap, in partnership with product leadership.
- Provide technical leadership on the product's core development initiatives — a cloud-native, event-driven microservices platform (services in a modern strongly typed language such as Rust or Go; TypeScript front ends; GraphQL APIs; Kubernetes-based deployment).
- Participate in proposal development with specific focus on the technical response sections.
- Coordinate with application services and support teams on systems support transition.
- Partner with QA leadership on quality strategy and process improvement.
- Coordinate release management and maintenance activities with operations and maintenance leads.
- Report to the Senior Director, Zentrik Product.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree desired.
- 5+ years of engineering management experience leading software development teams.
- 10+ years of software development experience, including SDLC management.
- Strong track record of delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
- Strong technical background in web application development and distributed/cloud systems; familiarity with modern stacks (e.g., Rust or Go services, TypeScript front ends, Kubernetes, event-driven architectures) strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.

- Experience in tolling, intelligent transportation systems, payments, or other mission-critical transaction systems is a plus.
