RemoteRemoteEngineeringFull-time

Head of engineering for our next-generation tolling and intelligent transportation platform. This player-coach role combines people leadership with technical depth: the Manager owns the software development life cycle (SDLC) and engineering execution against the product roadmap, and partners closely with product leadership to deliver high-quality software on time and on budget. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and is able to work across multiple concurrent workstreams.

Responsibilities

  • Set and measure quarterly goals for direct reports.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for direct reports' career development and advancement.
  • Conduct performance reviews.
  • Hire, develop, and retain engineers; foster an engineering culture of ownership, peer review, and continuous improvement.
  • Own engineering capacity planning and staffing against the product roadmap, in partnership with product leadership.
  • Provide technical leadership on the product's core development initiatives — a cloud-native, event-driven microservices platform (services in a modern strongly typed language such as Rust or Go; TypeScript front ends; GraphQL APIs; Kubernetes-based deployment).
  • Participate in proposal development with specific focus on the technical response sections.
  • Coordinate with application services and support teams on systems support transition.
  • Partner with QA leadership on quality strategy and process improvement.
  • Coordinate release management and maintenance activities with operations and maintenance leads.
  • Report to the Senior Director, Zentrik Product.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree desired.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience leading software development teams.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including SDLC management.
  • Strong track record of delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Strong technical background in web application development and distributed/cloud systems; familiarity with modern stacks (e.g., Rust or Go services, TypeScript front ends, Kubernetes, event-driven architectures) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven problem solving skills.
  • Thrives in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment.
  • Decisive.
  • Positive, proven leadership attitude is a must.
  • Project management skills are preferred.
  • Experience in tolling, intelligent transportation systems, payments, or other mission-critical transaction systems is a plus.

  • Retirement plans.
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).
  • Employee referral program.
