About the role

KPMG is currently seeking a Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent client service to multi-state companies with state and local tax (SALT) issues including compliance, advisory services, planning, technology, and controversies
  • Review information presented on state sales and use tax returns before, during, and after preparation
  • Support multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies, which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and at appeal meetings, and preparing protests
  • Research and draft technical memoranda regarding SALT questions
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members
  • Assist with the business development, management, and delivery of SALT services, and aid and oversight on large client project engagements

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of recent experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Licensed CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MST (master’s in taxation) or a certified member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) designation for non-CPA eligible candidates, in addition to others on KPMG’s approved credential listing; any individual who does not possess at least one of the approved designations/credentials when their employment commences has one year from their date of hire to obtain at least one of the approved designations/credentials
  • Ability to develop business and foster client relationships
  • Capability and desire to perform in a high-energy team environment
  • Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills

Pay

California Salary Range: $97,850 – $227,240. Salary is determined based on relevant factors including applicant’s skills, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and market considerations. For other locations, see KPMG’s pay transparency page.
