About the role
A&M's Sales and Use Tax team advises clients on sales and use tax matters, including reverse audits, audit management controversy, event-based tax planning, and tax department process improvement projects. Our team provides tailored services to assist your Finance organization and/or sales tax department with operational performance improvement and implements comprehensive plans to maximize value.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and detailed technical research memorandums for internal sources and clients, with review and guidance from managers and senior team members
- Assist in and support reverse audits, controversy matters, tax planning initiatives, voluntary disclosure agreements, process improvement projects, and sales/use tax exposure analysis
- Develop working relationships with client and personnel and collaborate effectively with internal engagement teams
- Support compliance with sales and use tax regulations by researching technical issues, filing obligations, and identifying incomplete information
- Maintain audit documentation and provide support on audits, due diligence engagements, and special projects
- Conduct multi-state sales & use tax research related to taxability, sourcing, and nexus issues, and summarize findings for internal and external stakeholders
- Support the calculation and monitoring of FAS 5 reserves related to sales and use tax audits and exposures, under manager supervision
- Coordinate multi-state sales and use tax matters related to government incentives and related revenue streams
- Contribute to updates and maintenance of sales and use tax matrices, including researching taxability changes and documenting results
- Collaborate with IT and data teams to support tax system enhancements and implementation initiatives
- Build internal relationships across offices and teams to support resolution of sales and use tax questions and engagement needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) with the Institute of Professionals in Taxation, CPA, JD (with bachelor's degree in accounting, preferred), or LLM required (or in the process of obtaining advanced certification)
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a sales & use tax practice at a public accounting firm or large consulting firm
- Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting
- Strong writing, analytical, research, excel, and organizational skills
- Strong communication, presentation, project management, and business development skills
- Strong sense of personal motivation as well as the ability to work with a team
- Ability to work in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment
- Strong tax audit, research, strategic thinking, judgment, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Proficiency with Vertex tax software and SAP (ERP system)
- Knowledge of process control and improvement

Benefits
The salary range is $110,000 - $140,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance.
