Manager, Radiological Engineering

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Manager, Radiological Engineering to be based in Aiken, SC on the Savannah River Site.

About the role

The Manager, Radiological Engineering leads and manages a group of professional technical resources—engineers, health physicists, subcontractors, and other professionals—to deliver radiological engineering solutions for SRMC operational facilities, facility design and modifications, the radiological protection program, technologies, and customer support.

This role defines objectives, develops strategies, and manages resources to achieve goals through effective interaction with management and customers. The manager establishes and communicates expectations to ensure high engineering discipline standards and quality, oversees engineering commitments via schedules (e.g., POW, POD) and tracking systems (e.g., STAR, APS), and ensures on-time delivery of engineering products.

The role collaborates with peer engineering managers to support broader business objectives and major engineering issue resolutions, provides leadership for long-term departmental improvements, and offers guidance to direct reports on technical and personnel matters.

Responsibilities

• Apply sophisticated radiological engineering and health physics principles to complex facilities/projects, providing advanced technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on Radiological Protection issues requiring innovative solutions.
• Perform complex assessments, calculations, and monitoring to determine proper radiological controls and shielding, ensuring compliance with company/regulatory standards while considering economic impacts.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures, including advanced radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.
• Incorporate innovation and ingenuity in problem-solving to reduce costs and improve processes.
• Conduct peer reviews of complex tests and calculations for validity.
• Provide briefings, presentations, technical papers, reports, and memoranda to customers and internal/external stakeholders.
• Lead or serve as an SME within Radiological-related task teams, technical committees, and project design teams, representing the company in technical exchanges with DOE sites and commercial industries.
• Develop and present technical reports and lectures to peers, facility personnel, and senior management.
• Maintain and support technical procedures ensuring adequate radiation protection for personnel in radiological environments.
• Represent the company with the Energy Facility Contractor's Group (EFCOG) radiation protection technical group, acting as the Radiation Protection Program document SME, DOE interface, and 10CFR835 SME.
• Oversee engineering responsibilities for design and modifications to existing facilities, interfacing with design authority/services and producing engineering documents per the E7 manual (e.g., ESRs, TRs, CLCs, ECAs).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics, or an applicable science/engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience; or
• Master’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics, or an applicable science/engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience.
• Master of Science degree in nuclear engineering, health physics, or a related engineering/scientific discipline (preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of health physics concepts, principles, and techniques, with general knowledge of related disciplines.
• Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, and ANSI standards for radiation protection programs.
• Proficiency with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, and HOTSPOT codes.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and/or experience.
• Previous or current experience at the Savannah River Site (preferred).

Pay

USD $131,000.00–$225,000.00 per year. Exceptions to this range may be applied based on education, experience, and organizational needs.
