Job Purpose
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) is seeking a hands-on QA Automation Manager to lead our quality engineering team through a strategic modernization of our test automation platform. The successful candidate will drive our transition from a legacy Selenium-based framework to Playwright, while championing the adoption of AI-assisted testing practices across the organization. This is a player-coach role: you'll set technical direction and mentor a team, while remaining close enough to the code to make sound architectural decisions. This position is based onsite in Atlanta, GA.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of QA automation engineers, setting clear goals, conducting performance reviews, and supporting career development.
- Establish quality engineering standards, best practices, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and DevOps leaders to embed quality throughout the SDLC.
- Manage team capacity, sprint planning, and delivery commitments within an Agile environment.
- Selenium-to-Playwright Migration
- Define and execute a phased migration strategy from Selenium to Playwright, including risk assessment, prioritization, and rollback planning.
- Design a scalable, maintainable Playwright test architecture (page object models, fixtures, parallelization, cross-browser coverage).
- Establish migration tooling and patterns to accelerate conversion of existing test suites while minimizing coverage gaps.
- Define success metrics (execution speed, flakiness reduction, maintenance cost) and report progress to stakeholders.
- AI-Enabled Testing
- Evaluate and introduce AI-assisted tooling for test generation, self-healing locators, test maintenance, and failure triage.
- Pilot the use of LLM-based tools (e.g., AI test authoring, natural-language test creation, intelligent test selection) and codify responsible, effective usage patterns.
- Build a roadmap for integrating AI into the broader QA workflow, balancing innovation with reliability and cost.
- CI/CD & Quality Infrastructure
- Integrate Playwright suites into CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable feedback.
- Drive improvements in test stability, reporting, observability, and defect prevention.
Knowledge and Experience
- 7+ years in software quality assurance / test automation, with 2+ years in a team lead or management capacity.
- Proven, hands-on experience with Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript) and deep prior experience with Selenium (WebDriver).
- Demonstrated success leading a test automation framework migration or major modernization effort.
- Strong programming skills (TypeScript/JavaScript; Python or Java a plus).
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) and version control (Git).
- Experience testing web applications, APIs, and ideally mobile.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Hands-on experience applying AI/LLM tools to testing workflows (test generation, self-healing, triage).
- Experience with performance, accessibility, or security testing.
- Background in regulated or high-reliability industries.
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- A clear, stakeholder-approved migration plan with measurable milestones.
- A meaningful percentage of critical test suites migrated to Playwright with reduced flakiness and faster execution.
- At least one AI-assisted testing capability piloted and adopted by the team.
- A motivated, growing team operating under modern quality engineering standards.
