About the Role

Provides day-to-day administration and management of department staffing and output. Responsible for short-term (1-3 years) and mid-term (3-5 years) planning and target setting. Develops departmental goals and objectives that align with and support division and organizational objectives. Leads, aligns, and monitors high-level activity under a variety of conditions and constraints, both internal and external to the department. Executes complex instructions and responds effectively to achieve desired results.

Responsible for setting and managing departmental budgets, both expense and capital, and maintaining departmental policies. Develops and coaches team members to support personal and organizational growth. Manages multiple engineers and projects concurrently while maintaining optimal results. Facilitates and attends meetings, prepares reports, and supports divisional and campus-wide projects.

Includes mentoring and developing staff in the creation of specifications and process designs for new equipment, sourcing, funding deliberation, ordering, installation, and confirmation of equipment for current and new products. Conducts feasibility studies, develops process control specifications, prepares or modifies equipment and tools, examines implemented processes and their capability, and confirms product quality. Develops processes for new products based on design specifications and engineering changes to detect and solve problems prior to mass production. Prepares and presents design and procurement review material, analyzes data from new product trials, and develops improvement plans.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Production Engineering team, providing strategic direction and guidance.
  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and QA to develop and implement efficient production processes.
  • Ensure all production activities meet safety standards and regulations, promoting a safe work environment.
  • Work closely with the QA team to maintain and enhance product quality, meeting customer expectations.
  • Analyze production data and identify areas for cost optimization without compromising quality.
  • Support the introduction of new products, ensuring a smooth transition to mass production.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovative ideas and process enhancements.
  • Manage and allocate resources effectively to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and technologies, implementing best practices.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on production engineering activities.
  • Relate and communicate effectively with peers, production associates, engineering chains of command, upper management, customers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain good attendance and assume appropriate roles in a team environment.
  • Respond appropriately to unexpected or continuing situations in the work environment.
  • Occasional domestic or international travel, overtime, weekend, or holiday work may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial) or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Knowledge of Production Engineering policies, procedures, and terms.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, electronic).
  • In-depth knowledge of production processes, quality control, and cost management strategies.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools for production planning and management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and industry trends.
  • High level of ownership for the output and results of managed associates and the business unit.

Pay

Salary range: $126,000 to $138,000.
