About the role
The Production Manager is responsible for managing the manufacturing operational area(s), ensuring effective employee relations, health and safety management systems, and maintaining productivity levels. The role also involves recommending improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions.
Responsibilities
- Manage employees to develop effective employee relations, adhere to health and safety management systems, meet productivity levels, minimize turnover, maintain proper inventory levels, and communicate and meet high-quality standards.
- Provide employee coaching and development, make employment decisions, and resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
- Work to continuously improve in all areas, perform accident investigations, manage departmental performance measures, and track absenteeism and time keeping.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and manage paperwork flow.
- Lead the department through a 30-day planning cycle, manage department policies and procedures, and provide regular progress reports to the VP of Manufacturing.
- Accountable for identified metrics (safety, cost per unit, on-time delivery, productivity).
Qualifications
- Education: 10+ years in a manufacturing environment, 7 of which in a supervisory or management capacity, including employee hiring and retention, performance review, and discipline. A degree in the related field is desirable.
- Experience: Experience with a health and safety management system (e.g., VPP).
Skills
- Demonstrated ability to prepare/plan for what is coming (30 days, 60 days, etc.).
- Experience in training and development.
- Machining/assembly background.
- Sensitivity to the cause and effect of decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Ability to think ahead and plan over a 30-day time span and prepare action plans to achieve results.
