Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Responsibilities

  • Examine documents such as application forms, med records and claim forms to classify risks and determine appropriate physician insurance rates.
  • Responsible for annual renewals to include employed providers, JV coverage, contracted physicians and patient compensation fund coverage.
  • Perform due diligence reviews for all acquisitions and divestitures to ensure undisrupted service, timely budget guidance and early identification of risks.
  • Manage compliance of the risk management continuing education requirements for contracted physicians.
  • Monitor relative insurance issues in the United States, especially within the HCA footprint, the United Kingdom and changes to the Patient Compensation Funds.
  • Support and assist field operations and physician services in seeking solutions to physician issues.
  • Ensure continual database integrity related to provider exposures to include periodic audits and discrepancy resolution.
  • Oversee coverage and claim history verifications in accordance with department best practices.
  • Manage underwriters and underwriting analysts.
  • Underwrite, quote, and manage malpractice risks for HCI with emphasis on profitability.
  • Conduct the annual physician rate analysis including providing guidance to PSG and GME programs.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in an insurance underwriting or corporate insurance function is required.
  • Experience specific to medical malpractice is required.
