Manager, OSP Engineering
Job Summary
The Manager, Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering will oversee OSP Engineering activities, ensuring quality standards are met and projects are completed on time and within budget. This role involves leading a team, managing permits, coordinating stakeholders, and financial oversight.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead an Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering team and provide leadership and mentorship through coaching, feedback, development goals, and performance management.
- Accountable for the staffing, schedules, and compliance associated with OSP engineering and construction activities, along with the safety and quality of work performed.
- Oversee production of all engineering work orders within an assigned geographic area, ensuring they are designed in compliance with company standards, NESC, and municipal requirements.
- Confirm project cost estimates are accurate and release work orders to Construction in time to meet commitment dates.
- Manage the Engineering process and documentation through project completion.
- Identify permitting authorities based on proposed routes, including municipalities, government entities, utility owners, and other agencies, and oversee the completion of necessary permit applications.
- Develop, coordinate, and execute project schedules with contractors, property management, customers, vendors, internal stakeholders, municipalities, and government agencies.
- Coordinate and participate in various internal meetings to ensure communication and alignment of initiatives, information sharing, and implementation of best practices.
- Coordinate with State, local municipalities, and utilities.
- Verify contractor's invoices for accuracy and process to AP in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of outside plant (OSP) experience, including quoting, permitting, and other pre-construction activities.
- Developed leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and lead others.
- Experience using fiber optic network documentation tools.
- Advanced understanding of the permitting process for railroad, DOT, cities, counties, and pole owners.
- A valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.
- To complete a pre-employment drug screening.
Required Qualifications
- Experience managing capital budgets.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Computer competency including proficiency with Microsoft Suite and understanding of database programs; ability to type at least 40 WPM; ability to consistently deliver outstanding customer service; ability to work independently and apply sound judgment and reasoning skills to a variety of situations; ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively with other personnel to meet deadlines; ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities; strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills; strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors, and external customers, as well as cohesively across departments; ability to work independently and apply sound judgment and reasoning skills to a variety of situations; ability to maintain a professional manner and appearance; ability to travel occasionally overnight.
Physical Requirements
- Maintain physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system.
- The work is primarily a modern office setting.
