About the Role

The Manager on Duty oversees the operations of the center, ensuring member safety and customer satisfaction. This role requires independent judgment to resolve situations and performs duties under general supervision.

Schedule

Fridays: 4:45 PM – 7:15 PM
Saturdays: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Sundays: 11:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Hours per week: 10–20

Responsibilities

  • Provides information about the facility and services offered.
  • Delivers excellent customer service and assists customers as needed, intervening in difficult situations.
  • Conducts rounds of all areas to monitor functionality and safety.
  • Directs staff to maintain operational efficiency and safety.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures, securing restricted areas.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including data entry, record keeping, and report preparation.
  • Oversees and troubleshoots cash, check, and credit card transactions, including end-of-shift reconciliation.
  • Communicates and documents incidents, accidents, complaints, and facility-related issues.
  • Facilitates or initiates the emergency action plan as needed.
  • Opens and closes the facility, securing all areas when not in use.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down rooms for rentals, programs, and activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred).
  • 1–3 years of customer service, supervisory, or management experience (3+ years in a recreation setting preferred).
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, or ability to obtain them.
  • Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background check with acceptable results.
  • Must be able to perform job duties as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Skills

  • Strong ability to interact with the public in person and by phone.
  • Ability to interpret and advise on center policies to resolve customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, equipment, and terminology.
  • Ability to maintain accounts involving mathematical computations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and work procedures.
  • Strong initiative and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in common computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to learn and understand operational procedures.
  • Strong conflict management and resolution skills for staff and customers.
  • Ability to identify and eliminate unsafe situations.
  • Ability to perform successfully in stressful situations and make sound independent decisions.
