The opportunity
This role is based in North America Consumer Packaging and is responsible for building, configuring, and supporting automated prepress workflows that enable standardized, high-performance operations across the network.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock
- Build, configure, and maintain automated workflows within prepress systems (e.g., Automation Engine, WebCenter, ArtPro+)
- Translate workflow designs and requirements into functional system configurations and automation logic
- Support pilot development, testing, and deployment of workflow solutions across multiple facilities
- Troubleshoot workflow issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes
- Optimize workflows to improve stability, reduce manual intervention, and increase throughput
- Develop workflows to support integration with legacy systems
- Validate files, process flows, and system outputs to ensure print readiness and compliance with standards
- Partner with plant teams to support implementation, testing, and issue resolution during rollout
- Maintain and update workflow documentation, including process flows, configuration details, and job aids
- Aid in training plant personnel and supporting adoption of new workflow solutions
- Ensure workflows align with enterprise standards, governance models, and best practices
- Support system upgrades, software releases, and ongoing enhancements in coordination with IT and vendors
- Alignment with project manager on timelines and deliverables from other departments/vendors
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance workflow performance
What you need to succeed
- 5+ years of experience in prepress, printing, packaging, or workflow automation environments
- Hands-on expertise with prepress systems (e.g., Esko Automation Engine, WebCenter, ArtPro+ or similar)
- Strong understanding of file preparation, color management, trapping, and print production requirements
- Ability to build and troubleshoot automated workflows and system configurations
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and issue resolution
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across multiple locations
- Clear communication skills to support training, issue resolution, and documentation
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Commitment to process standardization, quality, and continuous improvement
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support plant implementation
