Manager of Oncology Navigation and Counseling

About the role

Inova Peterson Life with Cancer Center is seeking a dedicated Manager of Oncology Navigation and Counseling to lead the adult psychosocial behavioral health team. This role provides direct leadership and management of therapists and a nurse navigator across multiple oncology care settings, including adult inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and a dedicated counseling center. The position serves Fairfax locations, rotating between Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Fairfax Schar Cancer Institute.

The ideal candidate brings a strong clinical background in therapy, with a preference for clinical oncology or complex illness expertise, and a proven track record of collaborating within and managing multidisciplinary care teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage standards, guidelines, and protocols for determining care needs for patients impacted by cancer and their families.
• Oversee Life with Cancer's Oncology Navigation/Counseling programs and team members for patient populations.
• Incorporate data and information to continuously improve services and practices to enhance outcomes, while actively engaging in patient care and research to maintain current, evidence-based clinical skills.
• Manage staff through daily supervision, team member relations, and staff development.
• Partner with community-based organizations to improve the continuum of care for specific patient populations.
• Work with Oncology Services system-wide to ensure alignment of healthcare program promotions with community-based resources by developing written materials and public presentations.
• Provide safe and therapeutic care in a holistic/systematic way to facilitate patients' achievement of desired outcomes.
• Review and evaluate the plan of care for effectiveness and revise based on patient responses to interventions, providing feedback to staff for developmental purposes.
• Serve as contact and liaison for all Life with Cancer services and community services for individuals seeking screening, diagnostic treatment, clinical trial research participation, and/or support services.
• Monitor and ensure clear and appropriate documentation and support services are provided to assist in optimal outcomes for patients and families.
• Coordinate and monitor the development of annual budgets for operating units and ensure financial performance meets or exceeds established goals.
• Manage surveys regarding patient satisfaction with services received and the impact of patient education, programs, and counseling.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressive nursing, social work, and/or supervisory experience with a focus on oncology patients.
• Experience in coordinating community health programs.
• Understanding of community healthcare systems, resources, and data analysis methods.
• Experience in clinical research.
• Certification in area of specialty within a specified timeframe, if required.
• Licensure: LPC, LCSW, or licensed/eligible for RN License in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Strong five years' experience post-Masters working with chronic medical illness behavioral health.
• Licensed Social Worker, Psychologist, or Counselor.
• Experience with oncology patients.

Schedule

Full-time day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
