Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects of human resource management including: recruitment and retention; analyzing the adequacy of staffing levels and work schedules; ensuring competency of staff through standardized competency testing; and providing progressive counseling, when needed.
  • Monitors, with the Administrative Director of Radiology, the annual operating and capital budgets of each modality within Radiology. Coordinates follow-up activities whenever negative budget variances occur. Conceptualizes and implements remedial strategies to correct these negative budget variances.
  • Maintains positive patient experiences within Radiology by coordinating the analysis of patient complaints, concerns, and suggestions. Facilitates necessary follow-up to bring closure to all registered patient complaints.
  • Monitors service maintenance agreements with vendors as well as work performed by Denver Health's Biomedical Engineering on department equipment. Oversees maintenance of imaging equipment to ensure that scheduled preventative maintenance activities are performed. Triages nonscheduled equipment malfunctions by directing staff on the appropriate escalation procedures that must be undertaken to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Participates in strategic planning activities relevant to Radiology's various modalities. Participation activities include performing investigatory work surrounding new business opportunities for Radiology and performing return on investment (ROI) analysis.
  • Coordinates departmental huddles, general intradepartmental meetings, and Radiology's in-services as well as serves as a facilitator at the forums.
  • Conducts quarterly one-on-one sessions with direct reports to ensure that they are familiar with the scope of their job requirements and competency requirements. Discusses the individual's progress in meeting their annual work goals.
  • Collaborates with the Administrative Director of Radiology in the negotiation of contracts and agreements with outside vendors concerning imaging supplies and equipment. Monitors these agreements to ensure vendor adherence with contract provisions; performs follow-up, as necessary, to remedy vendor contract violations.
  • Oversees maintenance of supply inventory by directing staff to order, stock, and perform inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing imaging examinations. Participates, with the Administrative Director of Radiology, in investigating new supply unit cost discounting with Radiology's various supply vendors.
  • Supports the Administrative Director in coordinating site visits for vendor finalists as well as acquiring of budgetary equipment quotes. Also participates in the investigatory process of major imaging equipment purchases through working with the Administrative Director of Radiology in obtaining pertinent literature for development of a request or proposal (RFP) document development.
  • Serves as a departmental representative on various standing committees (e.g., Safety Committee, Environment of Care Committee) operating within Denver Health.
  • Coordinates educational programs, continuing medical education (CME) courses, workshops, and in-services to enhance professional growth and development of Radiology's employee workforce.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients, and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy, and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a healthcare related field is required. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, additional work experience of at least 8 years in a Radiology modality is acceptable.
  • 5 years of professional work experience in the role of a supervisor or manager of a Radiology department. Breadth of experience includes management of imaging equipment, personnel, employee work schedules, quality assurance activities, human resource functions, and patient experience activities.
  • Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Skill in exercising initiative, judgement, and decision-making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. Knowledge of managerial/financial theory and methods sufficient to be able to perform a variety of leadership functions. Knowledge in how to evaluate imaging technology in terms of functionality, patient safety features, operational efficiency, and cost efficacy. Expertise in preforming budgetary, financial, and strategic planning activities. Demonstrated knowledge of how to perform all personnel functions including hiring, performance evaluations, employee promotions, and disciplinary actions. Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission requirements pertaining to the delivery of imaging services at an acute care hospital.
