Manager of Construction (Data Centers)

This job opportunity is available at any location in the United States. Ideally, selected candidates will be near a Jacobs U.S.-based office, but the company intends to hire the best candidates regardless of location. The Manager of Construction (MOC) - Data Center Operations will oversee the project delivery of a large EPCM portfolio for a Tier-1 Data Center client, serving as the interface between projects and the business. This business-critical role ensures successful outcomes of Construction Management (CM) and EPCMV projects.

The MOC reports to the Advanced Manufacturing General Manager with dotted-line responsibility to the Advanced Facilities VP of Construction and the Global Data Center Operations Lead.

Responsibilities

• Sales Support: Interface with sales on new opportunities and prospects, integrating operations (engineering, construction, and CQV). Support sales and proposal efforts by identifying internal staff availability and potential strategic hires. Work with the VP of Construction and Operations to ensure best-fit resources for sales opportunities, including preparing and delivering sales presentations on preconstruction and construction services. Assist with negotiating contracts, commercial terms, and rates alongside sales, legal, and the VP of Construction. Provide expertise to guide effective implementation approaches (IPD/Design Assist/Design Build/Design Bid Build).
• People and Staffing: Oversee administrative responsibilities (performance reviews, timesheets, etc.) for a team of Site Managers and staff. Responsibilities may be shared with operations/BU as agreed. Provide training, coaching, and career development for all CM staff. Work with Data Center Leadership to strategically place CM staff for professional development and ensure high-caliber staff are assigned to key projects.
• Forecasting: Collaborate with other business units during forecasting to capture prospects where margin will be shared based on corporate policy. Ensure no double-counting of margin forecasts by coordinating with finance and maintaining an overall understanding of forecasted opportunities.
• Project Performance: Work closely with safety, performance, lean delivery, and operations teams to ensure proper job setup, including staffing, processes, tools, and procedures. Oversee health and safety for CM projects, collaborating with safety team members on reporting, staffing, and leadership. Prioritize preconstruction delivery during the design phase, ensuring measures like offsite construction, constructability reviews, and CRRs are conducted at appropriate times. Conduct monthly OPRs and report back to the business on critical activities, including safety, risk, cost, schedule, quality, and client issues. Participate in Gate Reviews as needed to ensure project progress. Work with digital delivery to implement appropriate technology and platforms on construction projects. Serve as the Designated Project Executive (DPE) for construction projects and interface with clients to discuss and improve project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• At least 6 years of progressive experience managing construction projects related to data centers, industrial, and/or commercial facilities.
• Strong working knowledge of pre-design and pre-construction, building systems/components, contract management, project delivery methods, team building, and client relationship building.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, target values, and mitigate project risks and issues.
• Experience managing a team of site managers and construction management teams on multiple projects.
• Ability to lead teams on very-large-scale green-field projects.
• Experience managing trade partners at principal levels.
• Commitment to safety, with the ability to work with the safety director on all HSE procedures and planning.
• Commitment to quality, with the ability to plan and manage each project’s quality team by following the field QA/QC plan.
• Lean construction delivery experience and ability to adapt to lean methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 30 training.
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Professional Engineer (PE), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Working knowledge of the sales process, including developing a value proposition, written proposal development, and client presentations.
• Experience with Polaris, including revenue recognition, project reviews, and project planning.
• Familiarity with construction software and ability to learn and use new tools (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Bluebeam.
• Willingness and ability to travel to project sites.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $134,000.00 to $185,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
