For 30 years, Per Scholas has been on a mission to drive mobility and opportunity in the ever-advancing technology landscape by unlocking the untapped potential of individuals, uplifting communities, and meeting the needs of employers through rigorous tech training. By teaming up with dynamic employer partners, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to innovative startups, we're forging inclusive tech talent pipelines, fulfilling an ever-increasing need for skilled talent. With national remote training and campuses in 20+ cities, Per Scholas offers no-cost training programs in sought-after tech skills, spanning Cloud, Cybersecurity, Data Engineering, IT Support, Software Engineering, and more. To date, 30,000+ individuals have been trained, propelling their professional trajectories into high-growth tech careers with salaries three times higher than their pre-training earnings.

Per Scholas is a national non-profit committed to advancing economic equity by providing tuition-free technology training to unemployed or underemployed adults for thriving careers in tech. Our model is built on trust, mission alignment, and long-term workforce impact.

About the role

Per Scholas is seeking highly specialized, contract-based Business Development Consultants to open doors in industries where current Talent Solutions capacity does not yet reach. This role is for domain insiders with existing relationships, sector fluency, and the hustle to create pipeline where none currently exists. Each consultant will be assigned a specific regional geography and industry domain, working as a targeted 'pitch hitter' to identify employer partners with immediate or near-term hiring needs aligned to our graduate talent pool. This role is deliberately distinct from our Enterprise Solutions Team, who manage core products and existing national accounts. You will be building net new.

Responsibilities

  • Prospect, engage, and qualify employer partners in your assigned domain and region who have hiring needs for entry-level tech talent.
  • Leverage your existing network to open doors quickly and generate warm leads within the first 30 days.
  • Conduct discovery meetings with hiring managers to understand workforce needs, culture, and hiring timelines; assess fit with Per Scholas graduate profiles.
  • Document all activity, contacts, and pipeline progression in HubSpot; maintain accurate and up-to-date records throughout the engagement.
  • Deliver a structured 30/60/90-day report outlining leads generated, employers engaged, and conversion opportunities for the national team to inherit.
  • Work alongside the National TSOL team to align employer messaging, graduate profiles, and available cohort timelines.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of business development or sales experience in one of the target domain areas (Advanced Manufacturing: factories, production operations, industrial automation, and Industry 4.0 environments), with a demonstrable book of contacts.
  • Proven track record of opening new accounts, not just managing existing relationships.
  • Comfort operating as a self-directed, entrepreneurial contributor with minimal hand-holding.
  • Strong discovery and consultative selling skills; ability to translate employer hiring challenges into partnership opportunities.
  • Familiarity with workforce development, staffing, or human capital solutions is a plus — but deep domain expertise takes precedence.
  • Comfort using HubSpot or similar CRM for pipeline tracking and reporting.
  • Commitment to Per Scholas’ mission of economic equity and tech access for underrepresented adults.

What Makes This Role Different

This is not a traditional BD role. You will not manage a territory of existing accounts or inherit a warm book of business. You are being brought in specifically because Per Scholas does not yet have the employer relationships needed in your domain and you do. Success here means generating qualified pipeline and employer commitments that the permanent TSOL team can convert and sustain beyond your contract. You are building the road, not just driving on it.

Contract Structure & Pay

  • Initial engagement: 180-day contract with defined deliverables (contingent on initial 90-day outputs).
  • Hourly Rate: $35 – $45 per hour, commensurate with domain expertise and experience.
  • Potential for contract extension based on pipeline outcomes and organizational fit.
  • Multiple consultants may be engaged simultaneously across different domains and regions.

Benefits

  • Holidays & PTO: Full-time team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off annually through holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time. All employees are eligible for holiday pay upon hire (22 holidays annually). Full-time benefits-eligible employees receive 80 Wellness Hours for sick, safe, or personal reasons and accrue vacation at a rate of 8 hours at the beginning of every month, increasing with tenure.
  • Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Choose from multiple medical plans through Cigna or Kaiser Permanente (where available). Eligible employees have access to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) reimbursing eligible out-of-pocket expenses up to $4,000 for individuals and $8,000 for families.
  • Dental and Vision Insurance: Select from two dental plan options and a vision plan. Employees who waive medical coverage receive employer-paid dental and vision premiums.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%, with full vesting after 90 days.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Free, confidential, 24/7 access to counseling, legal support, and financial resources for employees and their household members.
  • Parental Leave: Up to 6 weeks of 100% paid parental leave to support employees welcoming a new child.
  • Additional Benefits: Employer-paid life and AD&D insurance, short-term disability coverage, optional additional life and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting expenses. Access to voluntary benefits including accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, legal services, and pet insurance. Additional resources include healthcare concierge support, financial wellness tools, and employee discount programs.
