About the Role
The Interior Design Manager leads the interior design strategy and execution of multiple Marriott Select Brands new build / conversion projects across managed and franchised hotel projects, ensuring alignment with brand vision, operational requirements, and business objectives. Acts as a design authority, guiding concept development, evaluating design solutions, and influencing key design decisions with ownership groups and their representation. Oversees external consultants to deliver high-quality, innovative, and compliant design outcomes within established budgets and schedules. Serves as a trusted advisor to stakeholders by interpreting and adapting brand standards to diverse project conditions while maintaining brand integrity. Drives project governance, including consultant management, contract oversight, and post-approval change management, and ensures accurate project tracking and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of franchised or managed new construction, conversion, and the interior design process for adherence to brand standards.
- Provides information, interpretation, and guidance to outside owner’s design and construction teams for adapting brand standards to specific projects.
- Provides design studies, sketch plans, creative talent, and imagination to projects as required.
- Supports internal stakeholders, owners, architects, and other consultants to maintain quality, budget, and schedule.
- Delivers presentations to stakeholders across all organizational levels, including senior executives and ownership groups, to secure alignment and approval for proposed recommendations.
- Manages all projects through Oasis platform, providing timely and accurate updates to support business needs.
- Guides and supports the work of project team while maintaining liaison with all appropriate divisions, departments, and owners.
- Assists in the selection and management of interior design consultants; coordinates and implements work and projects as assigned.
- Develops and articulates conceptual design ideas, effectively presenting and selling plans to senior executives and property owners.
- Facilitates effective communication by managing inquiries, directing design-related questions, and ensuring alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Delivers precise, timely, and visually compelling reports and presentations that support design decisions and project milestones.
- Embraces a mindset of continuous learning and improvement, seeking and adopting new processes, technology, and solutions for highest impact.
- Recommends design changes to address customer satisfaction data, operational concerns, brand initiatives, and development strategies.
- Develops Property Improvement Plans (PIPs) in partnership with internal stakeholders, ensuring clarity of scope, cost alignment, and brand intent.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience at a design firm for large commercial or hospitality projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office, scheduling, project & database management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Adobe).
- Travel: 30%
Qualifications
- Preferred 4-year undergraduate degree in interior design or related discipline.
- NCIDQ Certificate.
Pay
$96,000–$129,000 annually | Bonus Eligible: Yes
