Manager-Finance, Investor Relations Engagement
About the role
This is a highly visible, high-impact role within American Express Investor Relations, offering a unique opportunity to influence how the company engages with the investment community. In this dynamic environment, the Manager will lead key aspects of the investor outreach program and contribute to a broad range of Investor Relations priorities, including earnings support, developing Q&A, investor communications, market and competitive intelligence, executive presentations, and strategic messaging. Success in this role requires strong analytical capabilities, exceptional communication skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to effectively collaborate across a global organization. This position offers unparalleled exposure to senior management, external investors, and the strategic priorities shaping the future of American Express.
Responsibilities
- Enhance the investor outreach program at AXP by analyzing and reporting on AXP’s investor base, including ownership data and meeting activity.
- Support the IR team’s efforts to provide a comprehensive investor relations program by creating prep materials for senior management for meetings with the investment community, including quarterly earnings presentations, investor day, sell-side conferences, road shows, and meetings with institutional investors.
- Develop an external perspective by reviewing analyst research and staying apprised of the competitive environment and market events.
- Manage quarterly earnings processes and analyses including data collection, consensus updates, sell-side analyst reaction tracking, and ad-hoc analyses to support the earnings presentation and Q&A prep.
- Support IR deliverables for internal workstreams, senior management meetings, and board presentations. Actively participate in these forums by taking detailed notes, researching answers to investor questions, and liaising on logistics.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders across the company, including Corporate Planning, business strategy and finance teams, General Counsel’s Office, External Reporting, and Corporate Communications.
Qualifications
- Strong critical and strategic thinking, with the ability to think about a “white space” problem, develop a point of view, and a structured program for execution.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and assimilate large quantities of information.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional business partners across the organization.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skill and an understanding of card economics and the Amex business model.
- Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to work through complex projects independently.
- Proven experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Intellectual curiosity and drive to research a wide range of topics.
- Familiarity with the competitive and economic dynamics of the payments industry a plus.
- Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills. Knowledge of TM1, Power BI, coding, and Gen AI a plus.
