Manager, Field Safety

About the role

EXO Inc. has been protecting public infrastructure across the U.S. since 2009. Without consistent maintenance and quality assurance, critical assets face a growing risk of failure over time. EXO delivers engineering, inspection, and remediation services for lighting poles, transmission towers, and other infrastructure exposed to ongoing wear from usage, aging, and environmental conditions.

The Field Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety programs and initiatives at field job sites, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, and reducing risks to personnel and property. This role is vital in maintaining a culture of safety across the organization and ensuring the well-being of employees in the field.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement safety programs and procedures to meet regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
• Ensure all field workers are trained and equipped to handle potential safety risks.
• Conduct regular safety audits and assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Oversee the development and execution of emergency response plans for field operations.
• Deliver safety training sessions for field personnel, including hazard recognition, PPE usage, and emergency procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify safety hazards, assess risk levels, and recommend corrective actions.
• Lead safety audits and work with supervisors to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Stay up-to-date on current safety regulations and industry standards.
• Maintain open communication with field personnel, management, and other stakeholders to address safety concerns and provide updates on safety performance.
• Lead investigations of workplace injuries, vehicle accidents and near-miss incidents, providing detailed reports identifying root causes, corrective actions and recommending improvements to prevent recurrence.
• Identify and assess jobsite safety risks, high-consequence SIF (Serious Injury and Fatality) incidents, and providing guidance on the implementation of effective elimination or mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of experience in field safety or related field.
• Minimum of five years of experience in construction or industrial settings.
• Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or a related field preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.

Physical Requirements

Mobility: Ability to travel regularly to field sites (80-90%), often in remote or construction environments. Ability to walk long distances across uneven terrain, climb ladders, and navigate through construction zones or industrial sites.

Endurance: Willingness to work in varying weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, or rain. Physical stamina to stay active for extended periods, particularly during site inspections, audits, and safety training sessions.

Lifting: Ability to lift and carry safety equipment, tools, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds (depending on the job site).

Vision and Hearing: Good vision to inspect job sites for potential hazards, read safety signs and labels, and spot unsafe conditions. Clear hearing to detect hazards in noisy environments (e.g., machinery, heavy equipment) and communicate effectively with the team.

Decision-Making Skills: Ability to make quick, informed decisions in high-pressure situations to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with field personnel, management, and regulatory authorities.

Leadership and Supervision: Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise field teams, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols and best practices.

Pay

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Range: $85-110,000 Annually

Reports To: Vice President, Safety & Risk Management
