Manager, Environmental Health & Safety
About the role
The Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is a site-based leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive EHS programs at our San Diego sites. Reporting to the EHS Director, you will serve as the primary EHS resource on-site and collaborate with the EHS team to align site-level programs with enterprise-wide EHS strategy, culture, and goals.
Responsibilities
Supports program development, risk assessment, and compliance activities, including inspections, incident investigation, training coordination, and corrective action tracking.
Serve as the primary on-site EHS resource providing guidance, support, and EHS oversight for manufacturing, laboratory, and facilities operations.
Lead implementation of EHS programs and procedures.
Conduct inspections, incident investigations, and CAPA tracking.
Conduct EHS training coordination and communications.
Manage CalOSHA inspection readiness.
Manage environmental permits and reporting obligations, including CERS, hazardous materials business plan (HMBP), Industrial Wastewater, etc.
Lead site EHS programs (e.g., Safety Committee, ergonomics support, engagement activities).
Collect and organize EHS metrics and reports.
Conduct emergency preparedness activities and drills.
Requirements
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related scientific field.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant EHS experience (in pharma, biotech, or lab environments).
Strong knowledge of EHS programs that support biotech manufacturing and lab environment.
Familiarity with risk assessment, incident investigation, and CAPA processes.
Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of CalOSHA regulations, EPA, and California environmental laws.
Nice to have (but not required): CSP, CIH, or biosafety-related certifications.
Skills
Strong knowledge of EHS programs that support biotech manufacturing and lab environment.
Familiarity with risk assessment, incident investigation, and CAPA processes.
Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
