Manager, Employee Relations
About the role
The Manager, Employee Relations (ER) provides consultative and investigative support to coworkers to ensure workplace concerns are addressed promptly, fairly, and consistently. This role leads complex employee relations matters, including policy and conduct issues, performance-related concerns, and investigations, while partnering closely with HR Business Partners, Legal, and Ethics & Compliance to mitigate risk and reinforce a respectful, compliant workplace culture.
Responsibilities
- ERC Team Management: Manage the North American Employee Relations team and serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations matters; coach the ERC team on investigations, corrective actions/performance improvement plans (PIPs), policy interpretation, workplace expectations, and appropriate resolution options.
- Review termination requests and other high-impact employment actions; verify documentation quality and comparators/consistency considerations as applicable. Complete documentation supporting severance recommendations.
- Proactively review with Director Employee Relations any highly contentious or Executive (Director +) corrective actions, PIPs or termination requests.
- Oversee the U.S. ERC team's adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs) and case management standards, ensuring timely response, consistent documentation, and timely case resolution and equitable distribution of cases.
- Manage staffing, time off request and coverage for partial staffing days
- Casework & Investigations: Conduct timely, thorough, and impartial investigations (e.g., harassment, discrimination, retaliation, workplace conduct, ethics concerns), including interviewing, evidence review, findings documentation, and recommendation of corrective actions.
- Partner with managers on performance and conduct management, including coaching, documented counseling, progressive discipline, and separation recommendations, ensuring decisions are consistent and defensible.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation between coworkers and/or managers; recommend interventions that improve communication and team effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case documentation in the case management system and HRIS; ensure data quality, retention, and audit readiness.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Consult with Director, Employee Relations, Legal and/or outside counsel on matters with potential litigation, agency charges, novel legal inquiries or significant regulatory or reputational risk, support preparation of responses and documentation.
- Collaborate with U.S. Benefits team on actions involving coworkers on leave or with ADA Accommodations. Partner with Ethics & Compliance (E&C) to ensure timely completion and resolution of E&C cases.
- Aid in the investigation and response to litigation or EEOC charges. Support initiatives related to culture, risk mitigation, and compliance (e.g., non-retaliation practices, respectful workplace standards, issue reporting awareness).
- Support the Director, Employee Relations, in quarterly reviews with HR VPs, HRDs and HRBPs trends and potential interventions.
- Deliver training and coaching to HR Coordinators, HRBPs and managers on trends, documentation standards and employment-law updates.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 Years of direct employee relations work experience
- PHR or SPHR and/or SHRM-CP
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
