Manager Emergency Preparedness

About the role

This position ensures LG&E and KU are able and ready to effectively respond to emergency events. It supports the development of emergency response restoration strategies and coordinates support during emergencies. The role establishes strategy, best practices, policies, and processes around emergency response and assures their integration into LG&E and KU’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP).

Responsibilities

• Coordinates development and upkeep of LG&E & KU’s EPRP within the defined Incident Command System (ICS).
• Assures consistent review and update of EPRP sections by assigned Section Chiefs.
• Serves as LG&E and KU’s emergency management representative for external organizations such as the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center, Regional Mutual Assistance Organizations, and County Emergency Response Agencies.
• Continually explores and benchmarks emergency response best practices throughout the industry and integrates those practices into PPL’s and/or LG&E & KU’s emergency planning and response processes.
• Assures adoption of industry best practices for emergency preparedness, response, and mutual assistance through alignment across PPL with designated industry emergency preparedness and response references.
• Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures and disseminates program information for Emergency Preparedness functions.
• Coordinates scheduling and execution of table-top exercises and drills on plan ICS Sections along with coordinating after action reviews following emergency responses, drills, and table-top exercises.
• Assures Alert Level Checklists are consistently reviewed and updated based on lessons learned from after action reviews of emergency responses.
• Develops and maintains measures, performance indicators, scorecards and other means for measuring emergency response performance as a mechanism to facilitate continual improvement.
• Oversees the Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) planning, including training and qualification of dispatchers, damage assessors, and wire guards; and may be responsible for the execution of established response processes during emergencies.
• May be assigned an LG&E and KU emergency and storm role, which may require working after-hours or outside of normal schedule during storms and other emergencies.
• The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Qualifications

• Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Required Experience: 5+ years experience with an active role in an emergency response organization or incident command organization.
• Required Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong change management planning and execution skills.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS in Emergency Response, Engineering, Business Administration or another technical field.
  • Five years experience in electric utility distribution or transmission operations.
  • Two years experience as an Incident Commander or other leadership position in emergency response.
  • Knowledge of National Incident Management System and emergency preparedness protocol; experience in business continuity plans.
