Working hands-on with both municipal and industrial fire departments, the Ferrara/KME team thrives on diagnosing departments' current apparatus limitations and response needs to custom design the perfect fire apparatus solution. Ferrara/KME is part of Terex Corporation, a global designer and manufacturer of specialized vehicles and equipment, including fire and emergency vehicles, waste and recycling equipment, RVs, and machinery supporting construction, utilities, and infrastructure.

About the Role

The Quality Technician tests and inspects manufactured products to ensure the quality standards and functionality for the vehicles built by E-ONE meet all customer and statutory/regulatory requirements. The Quality Technician may also monitor the inspection and testing activities of the production floor or set up equipment to monitor product conformance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support to plant production and manufacturing operations.
  • Test functionality of pumps, ladders, and all other related equipment.
  • Perform NFPA testing, Foam testing, FAA testing, Road testing, and other statutory testing.
  • Inspect products to ensure they meet workmanship standards and other requirements defined in work instructions, engineering bulletins, supplier manuals, etc.
  • Audit prints, shop orders, change orders, etc., to ensure products are built to documented customer requirements.
  • Conduct NDT weld inspection using magnetic particles, liquid dye penetration, etc.
  • Ensure manufacturing quality records are complete and legible.
  • Prepare ROPCs and certificates of conformance and test results.
  • Document non-conformances and verify rework.
  • Provide instruction and advice to production employees, dealers, and customers on proper methods for inspection and testing.
  • Demonstrate functionality and operation of apparatus for dealers and customers, as required.
  • Work with 3rd party testers to perform tests, document results, and ensure products meet requirements.
  • Support all ISO requirements, including calibration, control of documents, control of records, control of non-conforming products, etc.
  • Actively participate in lean/continuous improvement of products and processes to better serve the customer and improve operations.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills from identification through root cause resolution.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements.

Position Expectations

  • Safety: Follow E-ONE General Health & Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within area of responsibility, and notify coworkers and supervisors of hazardous acts and conditions. Proper use of PPE; use only defect-free equipment. Promote safety in the department. Use proper lifting techniques and overhead hoist when needed. Requirements

  • Advanced problem-solving skills from identification through root cause resolution.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the operation or maintenance of Fire Apparatus, or equivalent.
  • Thorough product knowledge, including functional operation.
  • Ability to handle critical situations requiring superior judgment and consistency with company policy.
  • Understand and follow documented Test and Inspection Procedures.
  • Operate electronic diagnostic machinery.
  • Knowledge of computer skills (Baan, E-ONE Portal, Data Entry, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Effectively communicate and interact with customers and fellow employees, even in difficult situations.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FAA and NFPA standards.
  • Obtain CDL license (Class A or B) within 12 months.
  • High school graduate or General Education Diploma.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift/Push/Pull: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching/Crawling/Reaching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet; extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Visual Acuity: Required for operating machines, performing mechanical tasks, and operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Hazards: Includes proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, or exposure to chemicals.
