About the role
Aecon delivers complex and impactful infrastructure projects—from transformative transportation networks to critical energy, industrial, and nuclear programs. The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager reports to the Director, EHS, and is responsible for providing health and safety advice and assistance to project Line Supervisors. The EHS Manager will audit Project EHS Programs and work with the line organization to develop corrective actions with the goal of continuously improving health and safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities
- Assist and support the development of site-specific safety training and orientation for workers, supervisors, staff, subcontractors, and clients.
- Review project plans and sites before work commences to identify safety-related risks.
- Liaise with external parties such as regulatory agencies, government inspectors, subcontractors, and the general public.
- Work with senior management to continuously improve Health and Safety Programs.
- Represent the Company at meetings with stakeholders on workplace health and safety matters.
- Support project-specific conventional safety and environmental management plans, including inspections, audits, observations, and coaching.
- Mentor project staff in conventional safety procedures and track/report safety-related statistics.
- Support the management of Return to Work and Modified Duties cases at the field level.
- Support Human Performance Program activities and assist in the development of EHS supporting documents.
- Conduct job site walk-downs to ensure controls are in place as per plan.
- Review and audit applicable EHS documentation.
- Report all accidents, incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and behaviors to leadership.
- Assist Line Supervisors in accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring documentation is completed and distributed.
- Post and maintain safety bulletins, posters, and distribute safety materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Develop and deliver presentations to workers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Manage the day-to-day administration of Environmental Health and Safety.
- Perform formal and informal inspections and audits.
- Immediately stop work activity when unsafe acts or conditions exist and inform site management.
- Maintain files of safety-related paperwork as per Company and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure corrective actions are taken whenever safety deficiencies are identified.
- Participate in daily toolbox and weekly safety meetings.
- Mentor and coach craft and supervision in safety roles, compliance, Critical Control Verifications (CCVs), and safety observations.
- Perform additional requirements outlined in the Project Specific EHS and EHS Management Plan.
- Maintain pre-qualification databases for clientele, including ISN World and Avetta.
- Support proposal development as required.
- Maintain and update EHS Program Procedures as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating and managing health and safety for construction projects.
- Previous experience in a leadership role.
- Highly self-motivated team player with a participative management style and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify training gaps, generate solutions, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Knowledge of construction projects and a solid understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and other relevant regulations.
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field.
- Knowledge of applicable Health and Safety Acts and Regulations (considered an asset).
- Understanding of OSHA 1904 Recordkeeping, Case Management, Workers’ Compensation Insurance, and return-to-work programs.
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills.
- Adaptable and flexible in an ever-changing environment.
- Experience working in unionized or non-unionized environments.
- Incident investigation training and experience (considered an asset).
- Experience speaking in front of large work groups.
- Must be able to obtain clearance and a badge for U.S. Nuclear Power Plants and/or Department of Energy facilities.
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must be a U.S. citizen to meet eligibility and security clearance requirements for access to nuclear facilities and information governed by U.S. federal regulations.

Pay
The expected pay range for this role is $75.00 - $95.00 per hour.
