About the Role

This leadership role oversees a software engineering team responsible for the company's global document management ecosystem, supporting the systems and services that process, store, retrieve, index, and publish business-critical documents across the enterprise. The position manages a portfolio of legacy applications while driving a strategic transformation into a modern Azure-based document platform that will consolidate and ultimately replace the existing suite of systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of technical employees, creating an environment that supports accountability, engagement, collaboration, and continuous learning

  • Provide technical guidance and support informed decision-making within the team's area of responsibility
  • Ensure solutions align with established engineering principles, standards, and architectural direction
  • Partner with architects, technical leaders, and peer managers to evaluate technical approaches and trade-offs
  • Encourage adoption of effective engineering practices, automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Support the responsible evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies where appropriate
  • Participate in team code reviews, writing, testing, and shipping code
  • Demonstrate competency in AI tooling, understanding and utilizing agentic design patterns
  • Translate department and organizational priorities into actionable team goals and execution plans
  • Help team members understand how their work contributes to customer outcomes, business objectives, and technology strategy
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, prioritization activities, and execution discussions within assigned areas
  • Identify opportunities to improve team effectiveness, customer experience, operational performance, or business outcomes
  • Use business context and stakeholder needs to guide team priorities and decision-making
  • Build productive working relationships with technology partners, business stakeholders, and peer leaders
  • Collaborate across teams to resolve dependencies, align priorities, and improve delivery outcomes
  • Communicate plans, progress, risks, and results with stakeholders in a timely and effective manner
  • Facilitate constructive discussions and support shared decision-making across teams
  • Contribute to a culture of trust, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Manage team resources to support delivery objectives and operational requirements
  • Participate in workforce planning, prioritization, and resource allocation discussions
  • Support budget planning and responsible use of team resources, where applicable
  • Monitor work capacity and team effectiveness to ensure resources are aligned with business needs
  • Coordinate with vendors, partners, or service providers when needed to support team objectives

Team-Specific Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the enterprise document management ecosystem, including the platforms and services that store, process, route, classify, and retrieve business-critical documents across the global enterprise
  • Lead the migration from legacy document management systems to a modern cloud-based document platform
  • Support and accelerate modernization for systems built on the following technologies in 12-18 months: Azure, Azure AI Foundry, AI/ML document classification and extraction, Java, Delphi, DB2, Postgres, Angular, Typescript, JavaScript, GitHub, GitLab CI/CD, Kafka, SOAP APIs, FTP-based integrations, and cloud-native document storage platforms

First 12-18 Month Success Metrics

  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering team by strengthening employee engagement and establishing a clear upskilling strategy focused on modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development and agentic engineering capabilities
  • Improve product reliability and operational efficiency by reducing support incidents by at least 90% through system modernization, process automation, and the elimination of manual operational tasks
  • Champion the engineering principle of "Automate Everything: we don't touch production by hand" by implementing sustainable, automated solutions that minimize human intervention
  • Establish transparency and strategic planning discipline by ensuring active and backlog work is visible, prioritized, and aligned to business objectives, with clear roadmaps that communicate investment and delivery plans across a 1-3 year horizon
  • Create a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement by adopting modern development practices, strengthening delivery predictability, and leveraging automation and AI technologies to improve team productivity and product quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in software engineering
  • Minimum 3 years' experience leading technology teams, technical initiatives, products, platforms, or services
  • Experience coaching and developing technical employees
  • Experience coordinating work across stakeholders and managing competing priorities
  • Experience delivering technology solutions that support business objectives
  • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading the modernization of software engineering practices, including Agile delivery, DevOps, CI/CD, cloud-native development, and AI-assisted engineering capabilities
  • Experience with AI-driven document classification, content categorization, metadata extraction, and intelligent document processing solutions
  • Experience designing or supporting high-volume document ingestion, storage, retrieval, publishing, and distribution systems
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures, APIs, microservices, and event-driven integration patterns
  • Experience partnering with third-party software development organizations and overseeing vendor-delivered solutions

Pay and Schedule

  • This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA area at one of the following locations depending on availability: Downtown Seattle, Federal Way, Lynnwood, or Bellevue (Factoria)
  • Candidates must be local or willing to relocate; relocation assistance is not offered for this position
