About the role
The Storeroom Department oversees inventory, receiving, mail, couriers, and warehouse operations, ensuring accurate supply distribution and efficient service across sites. It manages staff, maintains records, enforces safety standards, and coordinates vendor relations to support hospital needs.
Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate the daily operations of the Storeroom, Receiving, Network Mail, Courier Services, Copy Center, and Warehouse.
- Review all storeroom orders daily for accuracy prior to fulfillment and delivery.
- Ensure products and supplies are available in the right place at the right time through effective inventory management.
- Oversee receipt, storage, distribution, and accountability of all materials and supplies.
- Maintain inventory controls, stock levels, pricing updates, and inventory records.
- Monitor and expedite backorders while communicating status updates to stakeholders.
- Manage off-site storage facilities, including inventory monitoring, deliveries, and disposal activities.
- Coordinate group purchasing and prime vendor programs.
- Order and maintain all storeroom operating supplies.
- Review requisitions and inventory issue documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Implement and maintain property management and inventory control systems integrated with the MediTech Materials Management Module.
- Manage and optimize courier services to improve routing efficiency, delivery performance, and cost effectiveness.
- Travel between multiple hospital and ambulatory sites to oversee supply chain operations and support departmental needs.
- Ensure efficient operation of the Network Mail System.
- Cover system-wide communication regarding recalls, backorders, product changes, and new item implementations.
- Participate in product evaluations and present new items to appropriate committees.
- Oversee supply room organization, maintenance, and improvement projects across all locations.
- Supervise and direct the activities of Storeroom, Mail, Courier, and Warehouse personnel.
- Conduct interviews and recommend candidates for employment.
- Train, orient, and develop new employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development.
- Administer corrective action and disciplinary procedures in accordance with organizational policies.
- Monitor attendance, scheduling, and time-off requests.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings and maintain departmental communication.
- Establish and maintain job descriptions and departmental performance expectations.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Develop, implement, and update departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, OSHA regulations, Joint Commission standards, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide Right-to-Know, MSDS, and hazardous material training.
- Coordinate continuing education and training programs for staff.
- Stay current on industry best practices, standards, and technologies through professional development activities.
- Evaluate workflows and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Lead system-wide inventory and logistics initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve service levels, and enhance operational performance.
- Support the development and implementation of network-wide storeroom and inventory management systems.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Logistics, or a related field required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in inventory management, materials management, warehouse operations, logistics, healthcare supply chain, or related operational leadership roles. Previous supervisory or management experience required.
- Skills: Experience with inventory management software and ERP systems preferred. Experience with MediTech Materials Management or similar healthcare materials management systems preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, technical documents, and safety regulations. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and operational documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret and analyze operational and inventory data. Proficiency with inventory control systems, Microsoft Office applications, and reporting tools. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of warehouse operations, logistics, purchasing, and inventory control practices. Understanding of OSHA, Joint Commission, and healthcare regulatory requirements. Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization. Ability to travel regularly between multiple facilities and off-site locations. Ability to occasionally lift, move, and inspect inventory and supplies as needed.
