This position is located in Huntsville, AL and supports the Missile Defense Systems (MDS) Business Unit. It is an Engineering Section Manager role requiring 100% on-site support, with an average of 20% of effort dedicated to functional management and 80% to technical responsibilities on the program.
This dual-role position involves managing a technical group of 10-12 engineers and/or interns while also performing direct technical work on programs or proposals. The selected candidate will provide functional oversight, including organizational administrative activities, performance management, employee development, and career guidance. Technical responsibilities may include mission and tactical engineering, system architecture development, requirements management, IT system design/analysis, and IPT/product owner leadership.
Responsibilities
- Oversee product team staffing, employee development, and continual improvement of engineering practices.
- Support senior managers in executing strategies to motivate and ensure a high-performing engineering team using development plans, stretch assignments, feedback, coaching, and training.
- Provide people leadership for an engineering IT organization, including performance management, employee engagement, and recognition.
- Manage employee workloads and balance employee needs with business goals.
- Maintain assigned Northrop Grumman engineering processes, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure technical excellence.
- Apply sound engineering principles and ensure compliance with all command media processes and standards in technical solutions.
- Provide proposal input and review proposal content for both internal and external customers.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of technical experience in Systems Engineering or a related field, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 1 year of related experience.
- Ability to work well within a team environment and adapt quickly to change.
- Experience leading a project and driving performance against schedule, cost, and scope.
- Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication, collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.
- Solid understanding of Cloud Technologies and IT Computing Environments.
- Solid understanding of Network architecture and technologies.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
- Active in-scope Government Secret security clearance at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3+ years of Systems Engineering experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple simultaneous projects.
- Previous functional management experience leading a team of Software, Network, or Systems engineers, or technical leadership experience on GMD/GWS for at least 2 years.
- Previous experience as a Technical Lead in Cyber Systems Engineering, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution.
- DoD 8570/8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security).
- Knowledge of the Agile development process.
Pay
Primary level salary range: $127,000.00 - $190,600.00. The final offer considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
